Okay, here's the tutorial. Its long because I am trying to be very detailed. Its not as complicated as it might look. I'm just going thru every step in detail. Tutorial: Getting a pic from your PC-Picasa desktop app to Picasaweb to GW. Emphasis on Picasaweb-to-GW Upload from Picasa3 Desktop to Picasaweb Step 1. browse in your library to desired picture(s). You can do this on the page with all pics in your library. Just select the pic(s) you want. Or it can be after you have double-clicked to view a particular picture. Select the pic and "hold" it in your tray. (green icon). Press the UPLOAD button. You will get an Upload dialog box something like this: Step 2. Choose upload options (a) by default the target (web) album title will be named the same as the folder of the picasa3 library. In above example, it was "clematis" because that is where the picture came from on my PC. However, on picasaweb, I keep a folder just for pics that I post on GW, called SHOWGW. That way I don't have to think about deleting or moving anything and messing up the GW thread with a red-x. So in above screenshot, at the top where it says "upload to this album", I have already used the pulldown to pick the existing ShowGW album to use. This dialog box can also be used to create a new album called "ShowGW" or whatever you want. It looks a little different than above. The default access is private or unlisted. Make sure you select Public (b) select the size you want. I am showing you the 4 size choices they provide. 1024 pixels is the default and that is fine. I used 1600 in this case. When they say "original size (slowest)", that's assuming the original size is larger than 1600 or you are on dial-up. Step 3. Press the upload button. You will get a progress bar dialog and pic(s) are copied to picasaweb. Linking from Picasaweb to GW Step 4. Go to your picasaweb space and access the picture you want to embed in a GW conversation. Picasa3(and older) offer a quick link. On the upper right corner of Picasa3 there is a link "Web Albums" that will get you to your web albums. If you go "back" to your Picasa3 library, that folder will have a more direct link to go directly to the web target folder that you just uploaded to. In my case I got a link to "View 'ShowGW'" Step 5. Double-click on the picture from the album page to generate a picture page like so: Step 6. Click on the "Link to this photo" link to expose the choices on how to link. Step 7. For this exercise, you want EMBED IMAGE. Not link. (a) First Check the Hide Album box - unless you want viewers to see an extra link to your entire album. I generally do not want that so I check HIDE ALBUM. (b) then select the size of the picture you want to show. It is always a clickable thumbnail-type picture as I am doing in this thread. I have used 400px in this thread. You can try other sizes too. I like to use a size big enough that can be viewed without the viewer having to click (but they can if they want to see it larger). (c) then -- and this must be LAST -- select the entire line in the box that starts "a href". Right click on it and select COPY (or do CTRL-C keyboard shortcut if you're into that) Step 8. Now you have the all important html code in your windows clipboard buffer. Go to the Gardenweb page where you are posting and in the message window, right-click PASTE (or CTRL-V). Might look something like this: And you're done! Preview your message and you should see your embedded image. Like this: By the way, that picture I uploaded to picasaweb as original size (3MB). I am confused, however, because I showed uploading it as 1600KB. Lets ignore that for the moment. If you click on the picture, you are viewing it in my picasaweb showGW album. Then you can click on the zoom button and get some closeup precision. I don't usually upload so large, but I was curious and wanted to see. Hope this helps and I didn't overwhelm anyone. I think all paid email accounts include ftp (photo/web storage) space. You have a lot more control and no advertising because this is space that you are paying for. Most people pay for ftp space but many don't realize it is available. My email is with sovernet and I have a (long neglected) web site plus lots of stored photos. I have an inner folder entitled 'post' specifically to contain images for posting to forums including this one. This way the url of any photo stored in my ftp space that I intend to post will have the same url except for the image name and file extension on the end. Flickr.com is an excellent photo storage site without all the 'bells and whistles' advertising of photobucket. Photobucket must have some sort of bandwidth limit because if you post too many images or a photo gets too much traffic, the photo will often disappear from the forum where it is posted. As to actually posting a photo from your web site, you could do this, but you would not want to because it would point viewers directly to your computer creating a big security risk. However I believe that Picasa.com encrypts information so that you can share it directly from your computer safely. I could be wrong about this, but I think this is how Picasa works.

Ha! Well I don't have a youngest kid to ask---or an oldest kid---or a middle kid....... Just three folks here! Me, myself, and I! I do have some more questions about that virtual stuff, but I don't have time right now, but I'll be back later to hijack your thread, Digit! I didn't mention this earlier, 'cause I didn't want to confuse the issue, but when you install Picasa, it goes ALL thru your computer and "finds" all the pictures you already have anywhere! That's how they got there! I suspect you already knew where your pics were, but I was delighted when I found out it was gonna do that, 'cause whenever I had saved pictures from email and stuff before I got the digital camera, I never knew WHERE they were saved to--I just clicked "save," and they went off into the ether somewhere, so if I wanted to look at them again, I didn't have a clue how to find them! Picasa found them all for me! I thought that was WAY cool! If it found something you don't want in there for some reason, you can just delete it out of Picasa. (Hope you didn't have any nakedidity pictures in there!!!) I love having everything in the same place. Something else I didn't mention, when you change/edit your pics in picasa (don't know about Picnik), you never loose your original photo! I make changes to everything, but never "save" them that way--just because I don't seen any reason why I would need to save them, but even if you do make changes and then save them, they are still somehow preserved in their original form in Picasa. I can't tell you just where you find them since I've never done it, but they're there somewhere! And the way I do it, without saving them, I can go back in anytime and undo any or all of the changes! When you start changing things, stop and look after you change something, and there will always be a way to "undo" it---even if you x out of Picasa and come back a month later---you can still, easily, undo the changes. But a heads up on one thing! If you download something into WebAlbums, and then go back to Picasa and change it, it'll change in WebAlbums too--if you haven't "saved" it! .....I've had photobucket for about 4 years and didn't know I could adjust colors!! That's why I mentioned above about putting text on the pictures! I just discovered that about a year ago! And it really helps when you send somebody a picture and you want them to see whatever you're trying to tell them about! And it helps me too, sometimes, when there's a pic that just looks "like scenery" but you know you took it to show something---but you can't remember what! Without the text on that trail pic above, I'd NEVER remember where that trail actually was! It just looks like the side of a rocky mountain! Oh, and have you looked around enough to figure out that you can make your WebAlbums public or private--they call it "unlisted?" Yours is public now, and when I click on your picture, I can also look at the rest of your pics in that album when I'm at the WebAlbums site. If you have an album where you only want people to be able to see one or specific pics, make it unlisted and then click on "hide album link" before you copy the link. All my albums are unlisted/private! I'm a control freak, and I like being able to say who gets to see what and who doesn't! And this may not ever be anything you'd be interested in, but I've discovered that I can copy the text off of signs in my pics by cropping them small enough to be able to read it---and then I put it in the caption so others can read it! Check out this! You need to click on the pics to read the captions--which don't carry over when you post a pic somewhere. Your issue with the words and definitions! Back when I was trying to figure photo hosting out, everybody who was TRYING to help me was talking about the folder and the tray and the file and the desktop and the............ And I didn't have a clue what anybody was talking about! Of course, once I figured out what they were talking about, I already knew what it was---but I just didn't know what it was CALLED! The kids! Hey! They learn it as they're growing up! But, just give one of them that manual typewriter-----and see what they can do with it!!! Or hand them a 1940's style phone and watch their face when an operator says: Number Please! Just today I learned something new! (I'm sure there's not enough time left in this lifetime to learn it ALL!) I've had this Apple Mobile Device Service process running on my computer all the time, and I've NEVER had an Apple Mobile Device---so I don't need service for it! My olde computer is slow enough without extra junk running, so I started searching! I found a GREAT site that told me how to disable it, complete with pictures, so I didn't have to guess at the terminology! And I learned how to get to the Windows Services window---with LOTS of things I could turn off---or not! I found out that the Apple Mobile Device Service was installed when I installed itunes---which I have subsequently uninstalled---but there's still lots of leftovers from it! And I've restarted my computer since I deactivated it, and it didn't come back, so I must have done it right! Chalk one up for the good guys! I took about an hour and checked out all the other "services" that load automatically, but I don't know enough about them to decide if I can safely disable them or not! I did turn off one called "themes"---I don't do any fancy stuff---but when I stopped the process, I mean the "service," my screen got all weirded out looking, so I turned it back on! Guess maybe I do use THEMES afterall! I'll probably think of some other Picasa things to tell you about yet, but in the meantime, if you're wondering about something, let me know. If it's something I haven't noticed yet, we can figure it out together! And, I'm with you, I don't worry too much about clicking here, there, and everywhere on things anymore either! I've come to the grand conclusion that the only way to figure something out on a computer is to just start clicking and see what happens! My sister has a different approach. When our mother died, she left behind a few boxes of old (and I mean old) family photos from both her family and my late father's family. She also left behind albums of her own RCAF service in WWII, and some photos and a scrapbook of a couple of my dad's voyages (he was engineer on an ocean-going tug). Sis took photos of my mom's younger brother, killed during WWII, to the tiny local museum where they grew up. Uncle Stuart's photo is now on their War Memorial wall. She took some photos of Mom's air force service to the aviation museum at the airport where she served. She took photos and memorabilia of my Dad's historic tugboat trip (yes, don't laugh, there are such events!) to the Maritime Museum in Vancouver. And she sent photos of my grandparents' homesteading days on the Prairies to the local museum back there, as well. All were delighted to have them! I've passed on some photos she gave me of our maternal grandparent's earlier years in England to a local historian back there who has an interest in the historic house they lived in, and had previously written about the family. He's now added a bit more to their story on his blogsite, and even dug up some information we didn't know about, including a couple of photos. So, while I may not have my grandparent's wedding photo up on a wall, it and they are memorialized on line in an article he wrote about them!
