I'm so very sorry David for your loss. Your Big Woman was a gorgeous dog. I'm sure she had many wonderful years with you up at the lake and otherwise. It's never easy to let go of these special ones. You have my sincere sympathy.

Lucy was my mothers name. I'll be thinking of you.. and Lucy.

Oh David, somehow I knew too, before I ever opened this thread. The best and most loving thing we can do for our pets is to do what's best for them, not what's easiest for us. I know how much you loved Lucy and how hard it had to have been for you to let her go.

It's been over two years since I lost the WonderWeiner to lymphoma and I was talking to him last night, checking the flowers where he's buried. I marked his spot with the black iron dachshund Ann T gave me and I still cry.

I'm crying here at work and my staff is avoiding me. Hugs to you, my friend. I know the verse about heaven having streets paved with gold. My heaven is green, with wide fields and tall trees. WonderWeiner is waiting for me, along with all the beloved pets we've lost here. Lucy is waiting for you too.

I'm not Catholic, just a heathen Methodist, but I remember this:

Pope John Paul II declared in a public audience
in 1990 that "also the animals possess a soul and men must love and feel solidarity with our smaller brethren". He said, too, that they are the "fruit of the creative action of the Holy Spirit and merit respect," and are as near to God as men are."

The Pope went on to say that, "animals have the breath
of life and were given it by God. In this respect, man
created by the hand of God is identical with all living
creatures. ... The existence therefore of all living creatures depends on the living spirit/breath of God that not only creates but also sustains and renews the face of the earth."

Oh yes, they'll be there, waiting for us, just as they waited for us to come home from work, or back from shopping, or where ever we were. They'll be waiting.

Went thru this same thing a few years ago.
My Daughters wanted to get me another pup but I didn't have
the heart to do it.

My 'Smokie " was a male German Shorthair Pointer.
We tortured him and he loved it.

If there is a Dog Heaven, they will be there, running around together.
