Guest/Kids bath finally done!

It is finally done! Here are a few pics, I don't have too many befores, just picture standard builder oak vantity and 4x4 white tile. Floor was peel and stick faux slate.

Very Nice!! Too bad bathrooms are so difficult to photograph...I would love to see 'the big picture'.

The sliding door is a great idea, too, and you chose such a nice one. Congrats and enjoy!

Yes it is hard to get the whole room in! It is only 5'x7' so hard to do that. I will try to get one of the room from the hallway.

It's been a long time since our children used the little wooden step to use a toilet but when it came time to pick ADA vs. standard height toilets for our new build we thought about it a lot. Finally we decided on the ADA height because the little wooden step can always be useful for a little one who finds the ADA too high but here isn't anything one can do to raise a low toilet for the older creaky knee set who needs a higher one (my knees hurt just thinking about it).

The textured walls are standard here in CA from what I have seen. It is standard knockdown. Actually, we have done so many projects I have become quite a pro at matching spots now. I moved a light fixture and no one can tell where the old one was on the ceiling. We purchased a neumatic gun for our air compressor. There is this hopper what you load the joint compound type stuff in and you shoot it on the wall. After it dries a tiny bit you take a putty knife and flatten the bumps down. You can make the bumps really big or small depending on how you adjust the sprayer. It takes a bit of practice but dh just told me to go for it and see what happens. It is a real pain when painting rooms when you want to make straight lines because the bumps interfere. They do sell stuff in a can and home depot told me to return the cans if it did not work as manufacturer states. It was horrible product and I did return the half empty can. Thanks for all the compliments. I was really unsure. My older sis came by and immediatly said she really liked it. The only thing she did not like was that we use the shower stall to store our snowboard gear in the winter. We go almost every weekend and it was a hassle to haul everything upstairs and too easy to forget something. I have a rod across the top to hang our coats and pants and the helmets and boots sit on stall floor. It allows everthing to dry out and easy to load to car since it is near garage door. We don't get lots of visitors so it does not bother us. In summer we hang our wet swimsuits in there, again making them easily accessible and keeps upstairs carpet from getting wet suits left on it.

Thanks Slush! The doors are my favorite too. Aside from the Italian faux finished walls, the doors are the first thing everyone comments on when they walk in the room. The first time we saw them we were blown away! They are solid wood, furniture grade from old-world-doors.com. Made just over the border in Mexico for a US company. Their rep came out to measure and they come prehung with the jam and trim. Thank you everyone. I'm so happy you enjoyed the view. :)

I only have 2 children, a 14 yo girl & 17 yo boy...and we have 3 bedrooms & a playroom upstairs (master is down.) My son's room has its own bath, but we actually added another door so it also opens to the playroom. So glad we did this! Our daughter has a Jack & Jill with the guest room. She has her own very large vanity with a sink and drop down counter area where she can sit & apply makeup. Her large, walk-in closet in is this dressing area as well. There is a door to the shared toilet/tub area, which of course connects to the vanity area of the guest room. The guest room vanity is much smaller, a single, and the guest room closet is just a small walkin in the actual guest room, not the vanity area. If we had 2 teen girls sharing this set up, the one in the guest room would definitely get the short stick! Since we custom designed our plan & knew we were only going to have the 2 children, our set up works just fine. Dd was 8 when we built, and we knew the teen years were coming. Teen girls just have so much crap! Personally, if I were you...I'd make the two older ones involved in the process. I bet they would prefer sharing a J&J to having a hall bath. Make sure they understand you are not getting involved in any fights & that they have to figure out a system. It will be good practice for college where many dorms have this type of set up now. The little ones can have the hall...and when your littlest dd becomes a teen, the other girls will be adults & she can have the J&J to herself!

Here is a pic looking in from the door. The tub/shower are on the right and the sink toilet the left. I used hooks for the towels as a towel bar was always being used to get out of the shower and falling. These are screwed into the studs and will not go anywhere! DD is pink, DS is green!

Now I just have to get them to use them!

Your bathroom looks great! We are in the middle of completing a 6x8 bath now so it's nice to see how wonderful a small bath can look. Could you please tell me where you got your switchplate cover. I'd love to get one. Thanks.

Your outside pocket door is very interesting to me. It looks just like what we need for our masterbath. Do you have a picture of the whole thing? Is it just a regular door set up as a sliding door? How was it installed? Is there a hook or something to secure the door for privacy? (I am just imagining my daughters high pitched screaming when someone walks in on them.)

We got the hardware from johnsons hardware, see link below. It is real easy to install. It is like a barn door or loft door. The hardware screws into the wall and then you attach hardware to any door, just make sure it is a little bigger than the opening. That snaps in and there is a little track guide that goes on the floors and there you have it.

I had already ordered my hardward when we decided to go with the pocket door. I didn't want to waste my gorgeous hardware so we used it just on the outside.

I still have to get a latch for the lock, but it is pretty obvious when someone is in there.

Here is a pic of the one we did last year for my master bath.

There was no door here to begin with.

Love the pocket door. When we added one, we didn't see any as nice as that one. The tile is great, too. Enjoy!

I looked up the exact hardware you used. It wasn't pocket door hardware, it was wall mounted sliding door hardware. It gives me an idea for what to do on a small half bath in my downstair hallway.

I love that door, and if you ever have a problem, the door won't be stuck inside the wall. Is it just a regular door?

Yes it is just a regular door! That is the beauty of it all!

I am thinking about doing these doors again in my upstairs office. The only thing different is that they are double doors! Have to work on that one!

Found the doors at Habitat for Humanity Restores for $50 bucks each, good think cause the hard ware was pricey.
