This time it's Thing Two's turn. Addie is engaged!

Her fiance is Sahar, and he is from Jerusalem. He is studying civil engineering at Technion in Haifa, and Addie is finishing up her master's in Holocaust Studies at Haifa University. She plans to become a dual citizen, work for a year, and then continue toward a PhD.

We all ADORE Sahar. He is funny and sweet and smart and they bring out the best in each other. They are a real match.

They are planning to get married on Labor Day Weekend 2014 (like Thing One and his wife did in 2011). Here we go again ...!

They did it backward: first they picked a date, then they ordered a ring, then he proposed (with a toy ring, as the real one wasn't ready yet). Don't ask me. "Modern children!" as Tevye says. But it's not important -- what's important is that they are so happy and so right for each other.

And I couldn't wait to tell this wonderful community of lovely friends. You are like an extended family, so -- mazal tov to us all!

This is not a proposal for exchange, so I haven't put it on the exchange forum. I just want to find homes for 5 roses I have that I have decided to sacrifice so I can grow a few new varieities. "Damn this tiny yard of mine!" lol Anyway, I'm not going to ship, so please don't ask. Most are too big for that anyway, being between 2 and 6 years old. All are grown on their own roots and are currently in pots. I want to keep the pots but will temporarily wrap them in garbage bags with duck tape to keep the rootballs intact. If you're in or near New Orleans and are interested in any of these, please let me know. The roses are: 1. Helmut Schmidt, a canary yellow hybrid tea, healthy and easy to grow. Pretty, but in my opinion better as a cut flower than in the garden. It seemed to bloom a little more last year. Perhaps planted in the ground, it can establish itself and be prolific again. I notice no scent to speak of. 2. Dame de Coeur, red hybrid tea. Strengths are its rich red color that intensifies as the bloom ages, and its imperviousness to hot weather. It has no scent I can detect, and the bloom form is ok but not exhibition quality. 3. Fragrnt Plum, mauve blend grandiflora. Nice, moderately fragrant and good productivity. This simply wants more space, so I am going to go for a smaller mauve plant in its place. 4. Prairie Sunrise, soft pastel orange. Nice fruity fragrance; a small srub. Old fashioned bloom form of many little petals. The Blooms last only a few days but are pretty. 5. Vista, a mauve mini. Lavender, actually. As the blooms age, they acquire a little raspberry blush from the sun. If cut and brought inside, they stay pure lavender. Very pretty but fairly short-stemmed small clusters. Lol, Annie! I'm sure we are indeed in a honeymoon period of our own, and there will of course be bumps along the way. But laying the foundations for a good relationship makes it a lot easier to navigate bumps. My mom and I thought about it and we couldn't remember any conflicts between ourselves or with my in-laws when we planned my wedding. We will meet the rest of the family at the twin sister's (Emergency Backup FMTO)'s upcoming wedding. Thing One and FMTO want to do most of the planning themselves, with everyone pitching in money. Fortunately, it looks like they are going to take me up on my offer and hire the gem of a coordinator we use here. She charges us very little and probably saves more than that anyway with her connections and experience, and she doesn't push choices or advice, just makes the hosts' ideas happen and runs interference with vendors, etc. -- tactics, not strategy, as it were. She helped us with the kidz' bar and bat mitzvahs, and I cannot imagine doing something like this without her. She also said she'd help me plan the other events of the weekend for no extra charge. Perhaps most important for our situation, though, is that SHE can work directly with Thing One and FMTO, so I don't have to worry about helping without it sounding like I'm trying to take over or push my preferences. They won't be afraid to tell her they do or don't want to do something, as they might with me. She called me today to ask about bands or something, and I told her to call Thing One and to leave me out of it as much as possible. This will make it MUCH easier to keep my mouth shut! But I still don't want to wear beige.

I don't trust those things. Too many stories that didn't end well in the middle of winter on a deserted logging road. I don't travel but when I did - long before anything like GPS- I drove from one highway sign to the next and always stayed in the general direction I needed to go. Now I check google maps if I go anywhere I'm not familiar with. I print it off and take it with me, both versions map and satellite. And I study it while I'm still at home so if I have any question I can find out before I'm on the road.

Thank you all! It is indeed exciting.

And it's so much fun to have all of you to share it with!

It does indeed seem like just a year and a half since Thing One's wedding -- oh, wait, it WAS. We don't even have the pictures from that one, and here I am planning another one.

It will be simpler this time, I think, because we are the only hosts, so it won't be planning by major committee. It was also so tricky last time because although we were the only local hosts, we were the groom's family, not the bride's, so we had to be extra careful. Of course, each wedding has its own challenges; now we have language and religious observance challenges to figure out, not to mention that Addie has very definite ideas of what she wants, some of which ain't cheap. But she is sensible and considerate, and I'm sure it will all work out fine. So far we're having fun.

I only wish I had the level of interest in minute details of things like dresses and flowers that she has. I know she wishes I would pore over pictures like she does. Honestly, most of the stuff looks all the same to me. But I will fake it til I make it!

Anyway, it's great to have you all along on the journey with me. You are such a big help, both practically and emotionally!
