I have both, and old PC in the computer room (on it now) and a laptop I found on sale. The laptop is great for surfing and watching TV in the living room,or traveling but the PC is for serious stuff, like bill paying, budgeting and office work. Bigger keyboard and monitor to make it easier.

I use both. As a former graphic designer, I'm very attached to my desktop, even though I no longer use it for that purpose. I especially love my large monitor. In fact, I have two desktops right now, one running XP and one running Vista :)

I use a laptop for school and for wireless internet if DH and I are away. It's convenient, but I guess I'm a desktop kind of girl.

DH, however, had used only laptops for years and would never go back to a desktop system.

Definitely desktop for me. I have a wide monitor, 2 printers, a desk that's over 8 feet long and extra portable hard drives for photos, so I'm accustomed to having a roomy workspace. We also don't use wireless so I'm cable connected and have a cable and splitter we can run outside when a friend wants to use his laptop on the patio.

I'm retired now so I don't need a laptop for work outside the home.

I have a laptop and would not go back to a desktop. I bought a docking station for it so that when I'm using it at home I can have all my peripheral devices hooked up: external hard drive, printer, scanner, extra screen, full-size keyboard and mouse. That way, I can combine the functionality of a desktop and the mobility of a laptop. I never have to fiddle with cables - I just leave the docking station where it is when I need to take the laptop with me somewhere. Then when I come back I just slide the laptop into the dock and off I go.

I've had a laptop for a few years now. It took me a good year to get used to the keyboard but now I don't think I'd go back to a PC. I like the streamline look and the ease of mobility.

I have a desktop at home and I like the big monitor. However, I don't like sitting at a desk to do casual web surfing, emailing, etc. I also need a new desk because mine is way too small. Still, I find sitting at a desk using a desktop to be better for bills, taxes, etc. Also pictures look a heck of a lot better on that monitor.

At work I have a laptop with a docking station. I could use a regular keyboard but I find it gets in the way, so I've gotten accustomed to the smaller laptop keyboard. I lug it home with me most nights so I can sit on the sofa and follow up on work emails and other casual stuff. I am thinking of getting a laptop for home so I don't have to carry it back and forth although all my work documents are on it.

My wireless system is great at home and also allows my Tivo to download programs.

I find that pictures look kind of short and fat on the laptop screen. Could be that it's just mine (an HP). If I go shopping for my own, I'll see if there are some with a more proportional screen.

We have a desktop at the house & DH has a docking station here & in our NY apartment for his work laptop.

We've got a laptop on the boat that I use as secondary navigation. Scarey thought, but I'm our navigator & I don't like to stand at the Garmin for a couple hours plotting. Our charting table is not very large & every time I get the charts & plotting tools out...DH plows through a wave & everything goes flying on the floor. So, I use the laptop at the salon table & transfer the data into the Garmin GPS/Auto-Pilot/Radar. That laptop has saved me hours of frustration. On long trips we transient dock every couple nights so we can email our kids to let them know we're OK & send pictures, our current location, the next day's destination, & an appropriate time window they can expect the next communication. We're usually out of cell phone range while underway. They worry themselves practically sick every time we take off on an extended cruise. :) We remind them of how we felt when they first started driving! Laptops on boats have become very common in the past few years.

I don't like the laptop for home use though...probably just a habit thing.

I've always been a laptop girl. I use a PC at work. I don't mind the flat screen monitors, but the other ones bother me, they aren't ergonomically comfortable for me the way they set them up at work--on tables or desks not made for computers. I love the portability of a laptop. Now that my brother got me a wireless card, I can doodle on the computer anywhere in the house--that I like. Unfortunately there really isn't room for it in my tiny kitchen. Knowing me, I would spill something on it in no time.

I have several of both, and I've decided that I'm a desktop/iPod Touch person. I don't like the laptop keyboard for serious work. Though I do like the convenience of putting the laptop in my lap with my feet on the footstool and surfing, but it does get hot after awhile, and the cooling pad is noisy.

My kids gave me a new computer for Christmas, an iMac, which I'm getting used to, since I've always had a PC. I had to exchange the wireless keyboard for a wired one. The wireless keyboard was even smaller and had fewer keys than my laptop keyboard. Go figure.

Definitely a desktop for me, I've never touched a laptop that I didn't hate.

I have desktop computers at work and at home and Elery has one at his house, I don't have any trouble using any of them interchangeably.

He also has a tiny little Acer laptop, I guess it's actually a "notebook", it's about 1/2 inch thick and is not as big as a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper. It weighs less than two pounds. He loves it and I find using it to be almost painful. I don't like the keyboard, I don't like the touchpad and I don't like the fact that I can't seem to set it anywhere and make it comfortable.

I also hate the Dell Inspiron laptops the lawyers use at work, I only touch them when forced. Ashley also has a Dell laptop for college and she is more than welcome to keep it, LOL. I do download updates for her virus scans, etc, but I mutter, curse and bite my lip the whole time and it takes me for freakin' ever because I can't manage to ever hit the right key.

I have no desire to carry a computer around with me, and so I'm content with desktop. I also have two desktops - one with XP and one with Vista. I've had the XP one since 2000, and it originally had Windows 98. It does everything I want except video editing, and so the second computer is dedicated to that, but I seldom use it. I have Google Earth and Sketchup on the new computer as well, but I cannot print from it because there is no driver for Vista for my laser printer, and the printer is not that old. I'm using an Okidata color laser printer that is on our home network.

I've thought about getting a laptop so that I could put my Astrology software on it and rent myself out for parties, doing astro readings, but now that I'm working full time again, I don't have time for that. I've also thought about getting an iMac, but I really don't need it. For my birthday, I bought myself a new 22" flat screen monitor, which I found at a Circuit City going out of business sale for $200. I had to recycle my old CRT, which worked fine, but was way too bulky. I felt bad about getting rid of it because it worked fine and a 19" screen, which was big enough, I think. Last month DB and I upgraded our bedroom TVs to LCDs (32" Sharp), and so we ended up with two TVs to recycle that also worked fine. I kept my large old TV in the garage, and we took my old CRT and Kevin's old TV to the recycling center, where we learned that we could recycle only two CRTs per year, and we've met our quota for the year now. So I guess the other TV will stay in the garage for a while. I might hook a DVD player up to it.

Desktop for me. I'm into powerful machines and must have an ergonomic keyboard for any amount of typing. Traditional straight keyboards are horribly painful for me to use... the angle of my wrists causes muscle strain and I am forced to type in short bursts followed by rest periods. It was a chore to retrain my typing skills to the split keyboards but I'd never go back. I'm not as fast but I can type steady for long periods of time without pain. I'm currently running two monitors with one turned off most of the time. Love being able to see two documents at the same time. The high powered video card I installed to run two monitors really put some zip back into my machine. Running Vista on my current active machine. Two running machines that have Windows '98 including my old Cyrix 686 I bought in January of '96. An old P120 I stuffed 60 meg of RAM into is amazingly fast and my best back-up computer. My XP machine is sitting in the corner with the power supply dead... need to bring it back to life someday as it has some data I want. All the others are just junkyard machines I keep for parts.

Keep looking at large LEDs but my taste went from 22" to over 30" so my buying is on hold until my budget catchs up with my eyes. CRTs are supposed to use less energy anyways.

I have both. Of course, it is very comfy to sit here at the desk in the office and suf on the desktop because we have a pretty good-sized monitor, but I also love the portability of a laptop. We have WLan so I can take teh laptop when I go upstairs and then I can surf and watch TV in the comfort of my bedroom.
Last week, DH surprised me with a "netbook" which is a little laptop. It has a 10" screen and is really lightweight. I love it. It is a little inconvenient because of the screen size, but it is really a lot more portable than DH's laptop which is just too heavy for me to carry around. I do have a cordless mouse for it because I detest touch pads.

I have a desktop. My daughter has a laptop. She left it on her bed and it fell off . It broke the latch that keeps the lid locked down. She had to send it back to HP for warranty work on it. I take care of my tower and everything connected to it.
I just ordered another hard drive to replace an 80 GB drive that is now in use. The next thing I will order will be another DVD burner drive so I can copy some things from from the original CD so in case one gets scratched I still have a usable CD.

We have both all over the house LOL. DH, the tech geek, does NOT throw out PCs or their components - he finds homes for them and then spends hours hooking them up to the house network, swearing all the time. The only rooms that don't have an internet connection is the hallways and bathrooms (so far....)

momj47, as I type from my laptop in bed (yeah note the time), I use a $15 lap desk with a bean bag bottom. Keeps the heat off. Got it from BB&B. Check out other options on amazon.

I've been lusting after Elery's type of netbook, only for traveling or while I'm out and about at a wi-fi spot. Not for serious work because they are very small. Target has the Asus EEE PC for $250....

Jessica, that's a good price, I think. Elery got his from Tiger Electronics with free shipping, but I think it was $279. He told me when he bought it but of course, I didn't pay that much attention. Yeah, that's it. It's not because I'm over 50 and don't remember sh*t......
