can you run a belarc on it? or is it one you are looking at to buy?

I too found one reference to a full sized board but would that be right considering it is housed in a mini tower? Just wondering as I have not had many dealings with mini towers.

Unfortunately my sudden refusal to shutdown, seems to be quite regular. I click "Turn Off From the Start Menu" We get to the windows is now (closing)shutting down screen, the jingle plays...and we are not on nor off. Its Microsoft limbo hell. Mouse control has shut down. Can I delete .Net Framework 2.2 without hell to pay? My gut feeling is my problems are stemming from .net or the Merc board. The Merc board once shut down my Morrowind game and cancelled the tilde key assignment. Even Bethesda Softworks said there was nothing I could do. Ideazon support told me to upgrade my all keyboard drivers to hid, and that (unknowingly) knocked out the PS2 keyboard drivers used by the laser mouse assignments...it wasn't until I redownloaded the laser mouse drivers, did everything start to work. I can now cheat on my game to my hearts' content. (The tilde key brings up a game console where dirty little cheaters, like me, can enter codes to cheat.) This driver install and uninstall freeze with this crappy keyboard, that I'm stuck with to save money, is going to break me. It might have caused some problems. I had to reboot my computer from the default settings in bios. Although there was a warning on the Microsoft update site about one of .net updates rendering some computers unresponsive? Well! gee. I CANNOT DO A SYSTEM RESTORE! I tried a few different restore points...and honest to Pete!...I got this message saying the system hadn't changed so they weren't going to bother, there wasn't any point!? I mean, I never!!! What the????

As Bob mentioned, Belarc will be the best way, especially for the Motherboard. The Motherboard will be under 'System Model' The Video card will be under 'Display' it will be the [Display adapter] Also you can right click Desktop> Properties> Settings> Advanced> Adapter, to show you what Video card or Display Adapter. or right click My Computer> Properties> Hardware> Device Manager and it will be under the + sign on Display Adapters

HP Pavilion with bad motherboard ?

I also have an HP Pavilion - and thought last year motherboard was toast - at 2 years - but it was something else, so I paid for the other "card" whatever it was and the diagnositic ($50 in Canada). BUT prior to purchasing this computer I had an IBM - with an extended warrantly. Motherboard went at 3 years and 1 day - IBM would do nothing for me. I did not buy the extended warranty for the HP because of this. HP couldn't understand why not?! And IBM couldn't understand why I wouldn't buy another unit from them. Same thing with a good quality toaster - lasted 1 year and 2 weeks - warranty wouldn't cover - next toaster wouldn't even start - so now at 6 months with newest toaster. When my HP was in for service I was looking at other models, just in case and the HP rep was in the store - he told me not to bother with the extended warranties. Re the motherboard going at one year and one month - they can go any time. At work one day my hard drive crashed, the tech came and replaced it and by the time he got back to his office, the new one had crashed. Yet I know someone who is still operating a 12 year old computer. I am using XP on my HP. I don't know what I will get next time. I really only use it for e-mail and internet - no music, movies, games - ZIP. Just the basics trying to extend the life best I can. I would do as suggested and get a new tower - and make sure you get back you old drive if you have anything personal on it. I am event thinking of a 17 inch laptop - but I would need to plug in a "real" keyboard and mouse - I hate the laptop keyboards - they interfere with my 120 wpm typing.

I am having the same problem with two a250n's. As usual, HP is no help. Their tech said something about flashing back to the original BIOS version (before we got into a shouting match), but wouldn't tell me what version or the Softpaq number so I could get it off of their ftp server. The PCI vendor ID's are wrong... Seems to be a frequent problem with the P4SD-LA, but haven't found a solution yet. If I do, I'll post it...

It is my brother's computer. It will not start up at all.
The fans all come on just as soon as it is plugged in.
But nothing after that, no POST, no beep codes, etc.

I think it does have an ATX motherboard.
I was hoping if I could find out which one it would lead to more info.

Has this computer been left idle for a longer period of time? If so I might try swapping out the CR2032 battery that is on the motherboard. It will be very visible and about the size of a quarter.

The fans all come on just as soon as it is plugged in You do mean after you press the start button?

Has anyone been inside the case at all? I was wondering if it was possible the 20 pin power connector has got knocked a bit. Hard to do as there is a small plastic retainer but anything is possible perhaps.

Nope, don't have to press the start button. Just plug it in.
We were thinking it might be a problem with the start button.
The computer has sat for a while. But I think it was
because of the problems it is having now.
To my knowledge, I'm the only one to have been in the case.
I checked all the cable connections. Everything is tight.

There is a strange problem with the video signal.
With the monitor cable unplugged, if I turn the monitor on,
I get a message on the screen saying "No Signal."
But if I plug the monitor into the computer and turn it all on,
I just get a black screen. I mite try a different video card.

I'll fiddle with it some more this evening.

last time i had a computer to start when the power cord was pluged in, the reason was the ethernet card was not seated properly. have seen the video card not seated properly also
cause this problem
