Old Software

I have several different old software packages that are no longer useful on either XP or my Mac.

Should I just pitch them in the trash? Take them to Goodwill?

Recycle?

Tell what they are... maybe somebody here send you postage paid mailers or something for them ? Or accidentally leave them at a public place to be stolen.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm not sure if cd's are recycleable, so I'm letting all mine go to charity. Maybe someone can use them.

It is interesting Pooh. Based on your post I downloaded and ran the program. At the moment this is still a BETA program, in other words it is being tested by those of us who elect to use it. Once all the kinks are worked out the final product will be available no doubt. On my computer it searched all 3 hard drive partitions and found 10 insecure programs and 4 end of life. However those tagged as end of life will not be removed, these are old programs I use and will continue to take the small risk they might pose. The live link to the right of each entry takes you to the needed update site for that particular program. It is one more program running in the background. Time wil tell if it stays on my computer but it is an interesting program

I forgot the main thing I was going to do, answer your question. I take it to The Lutheran Gently Used Store in our city. The profits go to help handicapped or abused women and children. I have donated a lot of things I could have sold, it's my way of making a donation to a worth cause.

Check with a school, church, red cross, etc. If they don't have any use for the software, try craigslist.

mine are piled probably in a similar manner. heck, i still have the old computers downstairs, manuals, discs and whatnot that they need. i haven't cleaned them out to recycle or trash, so there they sit. as for the discs, i'm so glad i haven't tossed any, because there was an occasion i certainly needed to reinstall things. i think to figure out what discs belong, check your system and manual against those discs and mark them and put all the others aside. i saw once someone created a beautiful mosaic from all the aol and other provider discs that they were recycling. interesting concept if you are creative. if you google "recyling old computer discs" you wouldn't believe how many ideas come up. maryanne

Trash. I worked for a community theater for years. Guess what? Your old software and computers are just as useless to us as you. Yes we need current accounting systems, supported operating systems and computers that can run current publishing and graphics software. People would call us all the time with offers to donate old computers with Windows XP or older, insufficient RAM , or small monitors. Someone even dropped off a bunch of old computers outside the front door. It cost us 40 bucks to take them to the local disposal site.

Time to pitch them. It's like trying to give away a CRT color TV. It may play well, but no one wants it.
