Remodeling a bathroom: where to start?
Comments (1)Go to Barnes and Noble, and spend some time looking at books dedicated to bathrooms, and look at magazines that do the same.. I spent 2 hours there, as a start. Then i "googled" master baths and spent a lot of time reviewing ideas and pictures.. Today, is the start of the remodel of master bath.. I'll post some before pictures soon...Dust is driving me crazy!!!!...See MorePlease help with this 50s bathroom!!
Comments (29)Sometimes it is one thing (like that Pink vanity in the Peach bathroom) that really throws things off and makes the whole thing look awful. I read an article by a contributor to a building magazine, how one night, (fueled by some alcohol) he took a sledge hammer to the mismatched pink bathroom. Only to find out in daylight, when he looked at the broken fixtures and tiles piled in the yard, that only the walls and trim were actually the bright, mismatched pinks: The tile and fixtures were actually a nice gentle beige color that picked up reflection from the poorly chosen paint....See MoreBye-bye 50s vintage bath, you failed me and now we must part!
Comments (90)Your vanity is gorgeous! "I'm such a dummy. I thought I posted this on the bathroom forum. Since like last January! Oops!" Well we have been the lucky beneficiaries of your OOPS and we love all things beautiful! Thanks for sharing it....See MoreTo redo or not, 50s pink bathroom
Comments (37)I also agree that if one is not in the business of flipping and has significant ties with greater workers as well as being able to source materials at professional prices, it makes no sense to renovate as a sure fire way to increase resale value. Most major remodel projects are going to cost FAR more than anticipated and be an emotional and physically disruptive experience. I view my condo as a microcosm because it was built in 1965 with some units in their original hideous condition - acrylic showers and all in one tubs; popcorn ceiling as well as what I think were essentially thin plywood slab doors :-). I see what completely virgin units sell for and what completely flipped units sell for and there isn't any way an amateur would be able to make money on the flip given what it is going to cost them for the job as well as carrying costs. In terms of the original poster, her house was built in a certain era and contains period details that are prized by many people just as people now treasure Spanish Colonial, Art Deco, MCM, Craftsmen and other authentic period details. So to put in what is currently trendy - i.e. gray "spa" looking bath or any other contemporary look is not necessarily going to attract more buyers versus a really well done renovation that respects the bones of the house....See Morelauren674
