Guest Bath Finished - pics!

We also completed a more "cosmetic" update of our upstairs guest bathroom. We had quite a bit of tile left from our master remodel, so we figured, why not?!

This bathroom also had carpet, a cultured marble vanity top, and gold everything. The only thing we left was the bathtub surround, as it was quite new and functions well, and the vanity cabinet (also in great condition and surprisingly went with the look just fine). We will also be adding a new glass door (we removed the gold trimmed one), but that will be when we replace the whole tub - for now, we added a curved hotel rod with a white cotton curtain to keep it simple.

What a nice transformation! I have not seen your other post yet, but imagine it will be nice with the same pretty tile. I love the border running through the floor and the top edge of the backsplash.

the tile is a story in itself. we went to the tile store to pick out tile. I really wanted some leaf shapes to throw in there, but they had none. while we were there, a lady came in with a sample board of hand cut leaf shaped slate tiles. Since the tile store had no account with her yet, they told me to deal directly with her. she had never done a maple leaf before, but I asked for 6 of them. She made 10 and let me choose. Thanks lori_inthenw for your kind words. No, I don't have any formal design training - just lots and lots of generous help from the forum and from the tile shop and cabinet maker (if you are in the SF Bay Area - PM me for the contact info). The designers really helped quite a bit and were patient with all my questions. :) We are super happy with the remodel and indeed, we had a "first world" budget so I can't complain and you are right - all those details fade quickly. thanks all. i'm already not worrying about future kids, since the vanity will be "adult" height and the next inhabitants can worry about that. i do, however, worry about guests (including kids) who don't know how to treat natural stone and may have nasty cosmetics, etc, that could leave permanent damage. just went to a stone place and fell in love with soapstone. even though the room is dark, am thinking with white subways in the shower it will be bright enough. since the subways are relatively inexpensive, maybe i can splurge on the stone. thanks alku05 re the freestanding tub idea, but i really don't like cleaning around it....and elderly parents who visit will probably appreciate a tub deck to sit on, stack their towel on, etc before they bathe. next question. architect specified a built-in bench next to the vanity w/drawers beneath.should i do it or omit it? i added my former laundry room to this previously tiny bathroom (laundry now moving to a large hall closet which i am "losing"). am also losing a larger linen closet to create an alcove in the hallway to let in more light. i will have a SMALL linen closet in the bathroom. should i have an open vanity with legs (more floor showing, more open feel., less storage?, should i do the built-in bench? sometimes i miss having some open floor space in a room. reasons to have it: more storage. reasons not: could put a separate bench, settee, plant, coat rack, etc. once i build the bench, all the floor space is taken up.....

Linelle, Yes it is an external mount. I only had to worry about the cows looking in from the pasture behind us but someone bought the 10 acres and built a McMansion so I had to attach a blind. That McMansion is in my face :( from every room reminding me of my relatively small house.

Very nice! I'm planning on using those lights in the two light configuration over the medicine cabinets for a double vanity. That was a tortured sentence. Two sinks, each with a 2 light Clayton over it. Are you happy with the lights and happy with them pointing down? They look great in the picture.

I really like the river rock in the flooring! How does that feel underfoot?

BTW, just a minor thing...close your toilet lid for camera shots! :-)

Thanks everyone - we're really happy with the end product. We just had so much left over from them other it made sense to knock this one out too, rather than waiting a few months! I couldn't live with carpet and gold anymore! Ick.

As for the pebbles, they are actually flat, so they feel great under feet. In our master, we used those on the shower floor and it feels just like standing on small tiles. Emser is the only one I've seen that carries these, but I'm sure there are others.

Re: Clayton lights - LOVE them. I actually wish we had used them in our master, but oh well! They are really great looking installed - modern but not too much. You'll be very happy with them, I'm sure.

Oh, sorry about the toilet! I'm not so good with photography :)
