Guest Bath Remodel Finished
It's small and low budget.
The theme is some of my favorite hotels I have been fortunate to visit. I previously posted about my hotel soap collection (which was deemed junky and cluttered) and that I was extending that theme to include pictures of some hotels...even a "Do Not Disturb" tag from the Queen Mary Ship Hotel.

8 years agoWell done. If you're going to collect soaps, I would place them in a better container that makes a statement & allows for more soaps.

Comments (18)Hi Kvil...as far as I know (and I am so not an authority), the honed is a smooth surface, it's just not shiny. Whereas the brush, while also not shiny, has a rough finish to it. We actually got the top from the place that built our cabinet for us - I know we overpaid, but it was a lot easier to have them do it. I know brushed is gaining in popularity - I'm sure you can find it if you look around - it really is a nice look and feel. No, I don't have any formal design training - just lots and lots of generous help from the forum and from the tile shop and cabinet maker (if you are in the SF Bay Area - PM me for the contact info). The designers really helped quite a bit and were patient with all my questions. :) We are super happy with the remodel and indeed, we had a "first world" budget so I can't complain and you are right - all those details fade quickly. Comments (5)Thanks for your input. The budget is $25-30K, in Los Angeles. That's about twice what we went into this "wanting" to spend. I'm not expecting to recoup the entire cost, but we're in a rapidly changing neighborhood with rapidly escalating home prices, so it's not totally outside the realm of possibility. It's also possible that we could stay much longer than I think. We bolted the foundation, restored/replaced the hardwood floors, removed/hid the popcorn ceilings, and widened the bedroom closet doors last year when we moved in. We got off easy on the asbestos, but doubled our costs when we found out all of our gas lines and half our electrical needed to be replaced ASAP. So yeah, I'm worried that our 20% contingency cushion won't cut it this time either. Option 2 opens onto the laundry alcove that is directly off the kitchen. I agree, it's not ideal. It is also more limiting in terms of potential future projects like a kitchen remodel. I'm really leaning toward the master suite. Additional storage will come from a built-in bench in the dining room window bay, custom surrounds for the laundry and refrigerator, and--who am I kidding?--probably a larger shed as well. Claire, they are so dark it's hard to get a good picture (see better picture of cabinets below).
Beverly, I tried to keep the countertop free of too much clutter but I do have more jars of soap in other areas of the bathroom (see the other jars below). I try to keep the jars tall and narrow so I can read the labels on the soap which represent good memories of a job I loved.
Tuesday, it's an inexpensive granite remnant called Sienna.

8 years agoBy having one canister with soaps, it makes a statement of the theme of your room, other wise it just appears as though you're storing soaps. Having the canister with a small footprint on the counter is wise. so a glass footed canister gives you volume with a small foot print.

I have selected the best of my collection (Waldorf Astoria, Atlantis, Trump Plaza, Coeur d'Alene, etc) and put them in one jar. It is about my guests after all...not me.
