Thanks everyone. Mikie - I will try that link soon. I sort of agree that if everything's fine, don't go borrowing trouble. But my laptop isn't quite fine - and I don't know what's wrong with it. The past month it's been weird. When I unplug it (to move it to another room), it just shuts down. The battery was staying at 87% all day yesterday - while plugged in. Then it sometimes takes many, many minutes to boot up after it's suddenly shut down because it was unplugged. Sometimes I have to reboot a few times til it functions properly. I updated and ran Avast, superantispyware,malwarebyte and spywareblaster. All were fine - so I don't think I'm infected. I sometimes keep a lot of tabs open at once(I'm embarassed to say how many - but since it's relevant - perhaps 2-3 dozen). I'm comparison shopping and keeping open the tabs for whatever I'm currently researching or shopping for. I know this taxes the resources. When I shut the computer down, I run ccleaner to get all that stuff cleared up. Lately it's done something else weird. Sometimes when I click to open something up in a new tab (Firefox - which was like version 5 - but they recently sprung 9 on my which I never authorized - Windows XP). So I click open a new tab. And the tabs just keep scrolling across the top. As I try to click on a particular tab, the tabs keep scrolling to the left. This happens even if only a dozen tabs are open. And this doesn't happen every time but has become frequent. I have to let it scroll for 5-20 seconds before the tabs stay still - and I can click on one. I have no idea what's going on. At first I thought I had too many tabs open - and overtaxed my system. But since it's happened with closer to 10-12 tabs (and no other programs open), I'm not sure that's the problem. Is it Firefox? My laptop? driver? Thanks. Lynn. PS damccoy - they wouldn't let me print out the page. It kept disappearing - bc. of course they want me to spend money for their program to update - they don't want to hand me the list to do it on my own.

I totally agree with MacT and its why I've been refusing to let anyone scan my DL which you are allowed to do! Just insist! Read this which I posted somewhere else just to help out: "Hi, I just found your post because I just got home from Target and figured for once I'd google and see if anyone else had this problem. I'm posting this just to tell you a few things you can do. I periodically jump into target to do my shopping because its right next to my house. On the occasion I do that and grab a bottle of wine they always ask for my license, The first time over a year ago, she took it and swiped, I asked her right away, why cant you just look at it and see I'm WAY old enough?? She couldnt answer. Well as an experiment I went back the next week and did the same thing, only this time when she asked for my license, I said you can look at it but you may not swipe it. She said I have to, I said NO you dont. All you need to do is verify my age, and in over 20 years that used to be done with your eyes,m NOT a computer scanner. She called over the manager, and to my surprise, the manager keyed something in, and she politely gave me back my license. THere was some sort of note the pc generated on my receipt. Apparently you CAN refuse to let them scan, just insist. You need not put your items back on the shelf. I just did it again today, and of course there are people behind who sigh, because I am stubborn about not letting htem HARVEST my information off scanning my id. But I assured them, one day you'll thank me:) SO, let them check your id, and dont let them scan it. Make them call someone over. This happens alot more than you think, thats why they have a special code they punch in. Its an infringement of privacy and not necessary. Have a great weekend! Niki"

ole joyful - Maybe I missed something some where along the way. Do you drive a truck and that's why you need a truck driver's license? I think one of the reasons so many have suggested that you might stop driving is that they care for you and are worried about you. You mentioned that you failed the test for the following reasons: "driving too slowly, didn't give nearby car enough space in multiple lane turn, not check blind spot enough, etc." These reasons seem valid reasons for failing the test. I understand that you passed the vision test for a regular license but my concern is the driving part. When my Dad moved in with us at age 85 he was still driving. He had only had one minor accident in 20 years. One day I happened to be following him home and noticed he was driving very slowly, not coming to a complete stop at stop signs and when he turned he made such wide turns that he was in the other lane. So one afternoon my neighbor and I followed him so that I could have another opinion of his skills and unfortunately his driving was even more erratic. I was planning on talking with him about it that evening. Unfortunately that afternoon he was parallel parking and thought the car was in reverse - it was in forward and he hit the car in front and pushed it 8 feet into the intersection. He came home and was so shaken up that he handed me his keys and said that it was time. I apolozige if I've offended you. I certainly don't know how well you drive and if I am wrong I wish you many years of happy driving. But we are all concerned and I hope that when my time comes to give up the keys someone who loves me will tell me.

Susan, I just now saw this -- on page 4 of the forum, and it's nearly 1:30 a.m. so it's now Wednesday... I've never taken this scanner out of the box! So, I had to push all of the stuff off of the top of it (horizontal surfaces do NOT stay clean for more than about 10 minutes if I'm anywhere in proximity). The box has been on the floor under my desk for at least two years, but now that you mention it, it very well could be three (or four! - gads, I hope it hasn't been more than that, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised). Anyway, from what it says on the outside of the box (at least what I can see from this angle), it's a "Visioneer One Touch 9320 USB" Aha! The packing slip was still on the outside of the package (I ordered it online and it was delivered...) The ship date was 02/13/2004. My how time flies when you're having fun! Let's see... it has 400 x 3200 dpi optical resolution 48-bit Color (recognizes over 281 trillion colors); 5 Convenient OneTouch Buttons; Scans slides or a negative strip; Blazing fast Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Interface and cable (Compatible with USB 1.1 too!) Says it's Designed for Windows XP... The reason I chose this one is because it comes with the slide and negative adapter, and has other features that I wanted (at least at that time). My father was quite the photographer (always had a darkroom in the house); and I've got boxes and boxes of negatives and slides that I want to scan. When I bought this desk, I selected it specifically so I'd have a place to put the scanner. But, there isn't a clear horizontal space quite large enough for it right now. :-( Somewhere "out there" in the mess in the garage I have another scanner that I used to use (and it was very easy - you'll get the hang of it in no time at all), but that was with a different 'puter with Windows 98. When I went to Windows XP, I needed a new scanner, which is when I got the Visioneer... Guess this means I need to hold off on getting Vista, eh? ;-)
