I learned design using pencil and paper. It's 100% intuitive. I've tried Autocad and low end design programs (though not Punch.) While a computer drawn plan CAN look slick, as others before me have said, it cannot help you design a landscape any more than Microsoft Word can help you write a novel. That comes from study and experience. In the beginning, rather than helping you draw, they inhibit your drawing. While the very basics might not be too bad to learn, some of the details can be maddening. When you can't find a way to accomplish some small task that prevents you from moving forward, it's frustrating. The other bad thing is that it can be very difficult to control the drawing the way that you want. I've seen computer drawn plans that look horrible and were barely readable because of being so cluttered with goofy plant symbols. If a low end program has a plant database, it will be woefully insufficient, especially if you're interested in unusual plants. To use a low end program, I find I must virtually ignore the plant database, and the symbols in order to create a drawing that is uncluttered and easy to read. Doing that makes it impossible to create a computer generated plant list so it's little better than pencil and paper to me. There is one nice advantage to even a low-end program and that's the ability to help you figure out, draw and visualize nice site work. If you're trying to layout some hardscape features, the drawing is precise and clean. The 3-d and rendering capability can make it easier to visualize the end result. I still like pencil and paper the best... except for the erasing. But throw-away tracing paper can eliminate a lot of that.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. I had to go out of town today. I read through the responses and will go through them again. Today on the road I thought I'd take screenshots (the Samsung is supposed to make doing that easy) and post pictures of what happens. Then I decided to take it to the Geek Squad at BestBuy first, since I've had the tablet less than a week. The young lady at BB was able to get the nook app to let me read books when I'm not connected to wifi (I don't have 3 or 4g). But as everything with android so far - she got it to work but didn't know why it worked or what exactly she did to make it work. We sat side by side and she tapped through controls and settings and didn't seem to change anything. But it worked. On the way home I pulled over to the side of the road and checked and it was working. When I got home I checked it again and it is still working. I'm still mystified. She's the first to get it to work and I'm very appreciative. I'm going to install alkido and play with things for a couple days, then repost to update. I hope things are solved. Several people have said I should keep files on the sd card I installed. A couple people have said I need a file manager app to do that. Any suggestions? Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'll let you know how it goes.

It is interesting Pooh. Based on your post I downloaded and ran the program. At the moment this is still a BETA program, in other words it is being tested by those of us who elect to use it. Once all the kinks are worked out the final product will be available no doubt. On my computer it searched all 3 hard drive partitions and found 10 insecure programs and 4 end of life. However those tagged as end of life will not be removed, these are old programs I use and will continue to take the small risk they might pose. The live link to the right of each entry takes you to the needed update site for that particular program. It is one more program running in the background. Time wil tell if it stays on my computer but it is an interesting program
