I have the GE slide in. It's designed to hang from the countertop with approximately 8 inch deep cutout. So, if the base cabinet is too tall then the slide in won't sit down properly and actually has to be supported by the base cabinet instead of the counter. My 36 inch wide base cabinet had three drawers so we cut off the top drawer. I measured and planned it myself but if we were doing it again I would have had the range set in place prior to cutting the base cabinet. In the end we shimmed the base up about 3/4 of in inch to get a tight fit under the range. We also allowed space for a plywood top for the base cabinet. It fits tight so that when opening full drawers there is no tendency for the cabinet to tilt. This was needed in our case since we have 4 inch spacers on both sides of the range cabinet fronted by turned legs. While working on this we were able to slide out the base cabinet, measure and make final modifications with the range hanging in place in the granite counter. We're done now and it looks and works perfectly! I have to say though my GC didn't have a clue how to pull this together and I had to take time off work to plan and supervise.

I would go with at least a 42 inch wide model, we went with a 48" and even though we are older and only 2 of us, I'm sure glad we did. I was a bit surprised to see GE at the bottom, (They replaced SZ). I'm sure you noticed what #1 was, and has been since 2005? Ours has lived up to it's position on CR, nary a problem. Well lit, love the different temp zones and how easy it is to change the filter and vacuum the condensor (once a year)---not 4 times, like the manual in the expensive competitors recommends. Ours has the Variable Speed Compressor, and I can tell you, that thing is QUIET----I still can't tell when it is running----that can be a disadvantage thou----I have an Elux wine fridge, and I can hear it running---when it starts to run more often and longer, I know it is time to clean the filter-----The JA gives me no such messages so I gotta remember to clean it--alto the filter for the ice maker hasta be changed once a year , and a lite comes on to tell you to change it--and I clean the condensor at the same time---so I guess , Not a problem. The only reason I can't "Heartily endorse" the Jenn-air is that now they are "Price Fixed", I bought my 48" "built in" (Note Purest, I did not say "Integrated") in 2005 for $4588, you will pay more than that for probably a 36" and that "Bugs Me" (a 42" for sure will be more than $4558). There was a post on here that claims "ALL Whirlpool built Fridges now use the Variable Speed Compressor"--yet another poster I consider "Knowledgible" says only Jenn-air. If all the Whirlpools have the Variable Speed Compressor, then I would look at the Kitchen Aid and other Whirlpool Fridges as they are less expensive and you may be able to "Deal", but Make sure!!! It has that compressor as we keep getting "Mixed Signals" Here! Good luck with your decisions (Think Hard about going Wider)!!! Gary

Have all of these (but with gas range plus refrig.) at my condo. They all perform very well---just as well as my appliances at my main home which cost 2-3X as much. Hmmmm, there's a lesson here... P.

I don't have gas, but I have had very good experiences with GE cooking products in general...so good that when I remodeled I went with them again...GE Profile. In particular, my electric smoothtop range w/convection oven from the old kitchen (purchased in 1995) was in such pristine condition that when we donated it to our church for a family in need, they couldn't believe it wasn't new! We had no problems with it in the 13 years we used it...and I loved the convection oven! Originally, I was going to get the GE Profile range w/warming drawer for the remodel but when we found room for wall ovens I switched to a GE Profile electric cooktop & GE Profile Trivection Double Ovens...the cooktop is basic & works fine, but I absolutely love the ovens, especially the upper Trivection (speedcook) oven! (We also got a GE Profile Warming Drawer...a basic model, nothing fancy and it's been great as well!) As to whether you'll use the WD, you may be surprised how often you use it once you have it!
