Resizing photos for posting with Irfanview.

Bob, thanks for this time saving tip. I've used Irfanview from the very beginning, used it on the first photo I ever took...great little fixer. But, I've always resized just one photo at a time....didn't know about "batching"....gosh, what a time saver. I also use another little online "freebie" for photo editing since I don't have a program like Corel or Photoshop. Its called Photofiltre (from a French firm I believe). I downloaded from their site and it has some pretty good little features. Those are the only editing programs I have and they both do a decent job. I resize with Irfanview, save the pix, and use Photofiltre for sharpening, contrast and any other little fixes I might need to do. It has a number of filters that you can use too. I usually save my pix at 20 to 25 percent compression so as not to lose too much resolution. I almost never save a photo at more than 1600 x 1200 pixels unless I'm going to have that particular pic printed.....then I don't resize until after printing and then usually store them at less than that...usually about 800 x 600. Bob, thanks for the heads up on batching.....this is really going to save a lot of time..... ~Kathy~

Need Program To Download Camera Videos

do you mean a regular digital camera that uses a memory card to hold the pics and videos? If so then you can simply remove the memory card from camera and insert it into a memory card reader which you plug into your usb port, if there is not one built into your pc already, then simply choose to copy it to the pc from the card, you don't have to have a program to move pics or vids from the memory card to the pc. Most newer computers have a built in memory card reader, if yours does not you can get one for just a few dollars, I have bought them at big lots for $6 but any store with an electronics dept will have them. That is the easiest way to do it and you don't have to add any extra programs to your pc.

Can you post to Photobucket without resizing?

Susan - I am not sure about PB resizing, but I think they do. I am on dialup - so I always resize before I upload or it would take a month of Sundays to do. I downloaded a Power Toy from Microsoft that quickly resizes pictures (and renames them automatically so you don't screw up the original) - it is for XP. I am assuming your friend has a Vista machine - they are for XP only- but I will link it anyway. You just right click on image and select "resize" and it gives you some options. Maybe VISTA has it built in. The "image resizer" download is towards the bottom on the right side. Also - you can resize an image by emailing it to yourself (works with Outlook Express anyway). Just right click on the image and select "SEND TO" then "eMAIL RECIPIENT" and then follow the steps that say "make my pictures smaller" - then you can email it to yourself and save the emailed image (renaming it). That is few more steps. There are quite a few free photo editors out there to download also - I prefer to use card readers when I upload my pictures. I also find them handy to add data/files back onto the cards. I use my SD cards for many other applications other than just in my camera. I have a little card reader that I insert my card into - and also my photo printer has card readers built in. Here is a link that might be useful: Power Toys Image Resizer - XP ONLY

Resizing images/pictures a little help tutorial

I am a big fan of the Windows Power Toy Resizer - and the clone for Windows 7! I am using the one for Windows 7 right now.... I choose MEDIUM for the size of the picture I am posting here. One of the really nifty things with using that gadget is that you don't have to open an software. You can go right from the "browse" window that opens - right click on the image you want resized, choose the resizer and the size to make it, and it automatically does it and renames it. It pops up a couple seconds later and you can click on it to select. It is certainly the easiest and fastest option out there!!!!

For on-board editing you may want to consider the freebies Picasa or Irfanview.

Don't know how much cropping and resizing you want to do, but the Windows Photo Gallery in Vista will actually do that. You can crop, fix redeye, adjust color and exposure right in the photo gallery. I have hardly used my photo program since I got Vista.

Checking the HP website and its forum, it appears that others have had trouble using the software and Vista. There are fixes for that but are lengthy. HP also offers free software, HP Photosmart Essential 3.5, which probably does more than just crop and resize. But as others here have suggested, there is an abundance of other free stuff that will do most anything.

I found a program on Vista that may also work. Its Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Just in case anyone else needs this kind of program.
