Can you post to Photobucket without resizing?

A friend has asked me to show her how to upload pictures to the Internet. I thought the easiest way for her to start might be with Photobucket.

I have a Photobucket account, but use it mostly for eBay. I resize everything in Photoshop before uploading. My friend doesn't have any kind of photo editing program. Does she need one to get started? Or will Photobucket accept huge files and resize them automatically?

I was going to tell her to buy a card reader. Is that the best way to go? Can you tell that I know how to do what I do, and that's about it? :-)

Susan, I just uploaded a full size picture file to photobucket and then resized it there to 640x480 with no problem. I did a test at the test forum to make sure it worked.

But in Photobucket I was told you can only resize once.

Blane, I have three accounts which I pay 25 bucks each per year for the upgraded version without ads and banners. I have 500 pictures in some of the albums then start another album. Not all of them are that full, but I never move them around and rarely delete anything, but that is always an option if you do not mind broken links. I realize that different folks enjoy different things and some may spend more that that total amount on one fancy meal eating out (I have in the past, at a fancy Inn of the Mountain Gods where they come out and set stuff on fire at your table), but get a lot more pleasure out of what I am doing now so do not even think about the little dab of expense. There are many ways that I can be frugal and more than make up the difference, if I want to. ":^) And happy gardening and Happy Easter to Y'all. I guess that you will get this "Easter Spell" over there in M-I- Crooked letter,- crooked letter. Bill P.

I have heard that there is a tropical azalea, but have never seen it. Nor any rhododendrons. They are probably on the 'unusual' or 'rare' side here! I have no clue, though! Thanks for the info on resizing. I have just received this info on the test forum (thank goodness for people who will lend a hand) and am on my way to learn to use the sizing correctly. Really do appreciate the suggestions. I was scratching my head, not knowing how I was doing this. First no pics, then too much! :) Clare, just to make sure I understand, I should delete the photos from Photobucket and reload them after I have adjusted the edit size? Just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. First time I'm using Photobucket, not that I was a pro by any means on Webshots!!! As evidence certainly indicates..........Sigh!

Hi, first of all I love your house and furniture. I like the first option better but how about this (I don't know if it works): put the couch under the window facing the dining room and put the console where the couch was originally. Possibly a big ottoman (rectangular) between the coffee table and the dining room (so you can sit and chat with the couch but not block the view of the dining), put the chair in the first option angled facing the console. I assume that's your front door, moving the console leaves that walkway more available. I would put something else there, a narrow table or chest of some type. Either art or mirror can go there or on console. Bring in some more green and I like the round mirror. Mariana

awww, thanks so much. we ended up moving because someone came along and offered us a boat load of money for the house - we didn't have to put it on the market, just sold it direct to them. The advantage to me, was to be able to buy a house with a better floorplan. The other house had a lot of square footage on the first floor, but we spend all of our time squeezed into the tiny family room off the kitchen and never used the rest of the space AND had with all that space, no dining room which was a bummer. On the 2nd floor we had only 2 bedrooms and a small room which was supposed to be the laundry room. Our plans had been to build on another bedroom on the second floor and move the laundry upstairs - the space on the first floor where the laundry was would become a dining room. BUT, when these people came along and wanted the house we figured we'd save ourselves the agony of another enormous renovation. The new house literally only needs a kitchen. Everything else is fantastic. Now my son doesn't have his bedroom in a tiny laundry room and can have all his toys out in his bedroom and play to his hearts delight (listening to him play and seeing his amazing creations with his blocks and trucks is the BEST part of the new house). I can't wait to do over the kitchen. I am really excited about it. I wouldn't have wanted to buy a house with the kitchen "done"... I am sure they wouldn't have been as TKO as I am!!! I don't think it will be another white kitchen. Still thinking about what to do and working on the floorplan. Cannot wait to get rid of the 24" soffits and laminate counters and the creaky old metal cabinets, and mostly the refrigerate in another room!!! (I do love having wall ovens though)

Susan - I am not sure about PB resizing, but I think they do. I am on dialup - so I always resize before I upload or it would take a month of Sundays to do.

I downloaded a Power Toy from Microsoft that quickly resizes pictures (and renames them automatically so you don't screw up the original) - it is for XP. I am assuming your friend has a Vista machine - they are for XP only- but I will link it anyway. You just right click on image and select "resize" and it gives you some options. Maybe VISTA has it built in. The "image resizer" download is towards the bottom on the right side.

Also - you can resize an image by emailing it to yourself (works with Outlook Express anyway). Just right click on the image and select "SEND TO" then "eMAIL RECIPIENT" and then follow the steps that say "make my pictures smaller" - then you can email it to yourself and save the emailed image (renaming it). That is few more steps.

There are quite a few free photo editors out there to download also -

I prefer to use card readers when I upload my pictures. I also find them handy to add data/files back onto the cards. I use my SD cards for many other applications other than just in my camera.

I have a little card reader that I insert my card into - and also my photo printer has card readers built in.

Thanks, guys! I should have thought to do that, Nita. And I should have mentioned that my friend has a Mac. Hate to admit it, but it's gorgeous.

I swear, Iowagirl, sometimes that "make my pictures smaller" command works, and sometimes it seems to challenge the program to make them bigger. :-)

Susan, I use Picasa to resize. Very user friendly and FREE. Google it...owned by Google, in fact. :-)

Oh, yeah, Picasa. I actually have it on my computer. I got caught up in the excitement when Google announced it, but never got into it. I'll mention it to my friend. Free is good.
