I completely agree with Heather Rosales. I too purchased a Viking built-in all-refrigerator in 2010 against my better judgment. My first problem was that I took delivery of a unit with a bent compressor, so I had to fight to get a replacement unit. In retrospect, I suspect that they replaced it with a refurbished unit because since then I have had ongoing issues. Almost all of my friends make jokes about my fridge issues because they have been following the saga. I had one or two warranty visits to address temperature issues during the coverage period. The warranty was also a problem because I purchased the unit almost a year prior to it being installed due to a renovation that needed custom cabinets that went on way too long. So, I lost a year of warranty time. Since then I have spent over $1600 in service fees (with an authorized service company to try to get it not to deep freeze all my food. I was given multiple reasons for why it was not working properly all of them completely hypothetical while each theory costing me money. The most recent episode involves the same authorized dealer deciding it needed a new door seal/gasket which took almost 3 weeks to deliver due to it being supposedly back ordered @ $700 cost. I am not sure if the seal was or was not the issue because the seal doesn't keep the door closed at all! There is absolutely no suction whatsoever in the door. In fact, the door looks open all the time now. Now they installed some type of temperature measurement device to monitor the temperature for the next 3 days. This experiment seems futile to me if the door doesn't close properly. It would be like trying to test air conditioning with all the windows and doors open. I am going on 26 days without a functioning refrigerator this time around. The other thing to be aware of it the quality of the crispers. They break very easily and the cost to replace them makes it impossible to replace. Of the 5 crispers, 4 are broken. I was quoted $700+ to replace 2 of them. Even the service company doesn't recommend replacing them due to the cost. I have had two other homes where I inherited Sub-zeros and I NEVER had one issue with those units. One of them was ancient but it was a beast; never failing me. I called Viking Range LLC and they don't seem to be interested in assisting. They have a customer care team that provides the token empathic statements but they don't seem willing to do more. In Canada, I noticed that even the authorized distributors listed on the Viking site don't actually carry Viking products despite being listed as Canadian distributors. This is a very telling sign! I would be happy to just trash this unit and caulk it up to a super bad consumer purchase but not only would I have to spend money to replace the unit, it will also require a new custom panel and custom trim work. STAY AWAY FROM VIKING!

PLEASE research the purchase of a Viking refrigerator extremely well. We have a Viking refrigerator that's only 9 years old and are going to replace it. We have spent the last 14 months with repair problems. There were so many visits from the service man that I lost count. The refrigerator NEVER sealed with a strong seal but we were told by Viking that that's the way it should be. Besides the closing problem we've had the freezer stop defrosting not once but three times and lost ALL the food three separate times and it was supposedly fixed each time. I read a post on this website where someone wrote that his Viking refrigerator was the most expensive stainless steel bookcase he ever bought ~ now I'm writing that I SECOND that statement !! We're sick that we are now in the market to buy another built-in refrigerator with another expensive price tag because of the shoddy workmanship from Viking. I purchased the cheapest Kenmore for our downstairs that's just as old as the Viking and it seals, defrosts and purrs like a dream ~ what's wrong with this picture. I feel that Viking just doesn't care about customer satisfaction. As for the salesman that is pushing the Viking really check into this ~ maybe the salesman gets a bigger commission for selling a Viking ~ please do your homework !!!!! I learned a VERY expensive lesson by taking the salesman's word for it.

Have the same fridge. There's some type of heating ring (or slight heating) on the freezer that's supposed to keep things in balance. Typical of Viking, it comes on the freezer but not hooked up. Could yours not ever have been hooked up? Or burned out or faulty? There were problems with the freezer out of balance until the tech installed that ring. They had to talk him through it because he had to find it in there. Since then, no more issues. SZ has the same type of set up so the tech was familiar with it in general. Keep pushing at them because, during my oven saga, the tech was actually speaking to the factory to get directions to install the oven fan. The written directions didn't correspond and no one he could reach at the factory could tell him what to do. The distributor in my area has Viking-employed techs who know what they are doing. I've had them out several times because otherwise it wasn't worthwhile. They know how to fix their appliances. The cost is ridiculous but the job gets done. Hope you can get one of those.

Terry Flynn-did you have to move the electrical and water lines when switching over from the Viking to the Samsung? I have replaced the fan in my Viking (circa 2006, but not plugged in until 2010) and the freezer still too warm but now the alarm goes off every 15 to 24 hours. I can’t get a good estimate or diagnosis of the problem other than “maybe a slow leak” and “it will cost thousands to replace.” Living where I do, I am at the mercy of one repair company. Getting up at 3 am to turn an alarm off is getting old. Had planned to let it just operate to it’s death, but it would be nice to know if it could be repaired and last awhile longer. Otherwise looking at a counter depth Bosch with some rework of the cabinetry and as I said, electrical and plumbing. That alone will be close to $5000 and if I could repair this one with some guarantees…..oy
