Viking fridges RECALLED
Comments (35)As always, antss has it right. Viking has stepped up and stepped in to get my fridge door repaired and to address two other four-year-running remaining issues with other appliances. I am pleased and hopeful and if this type of response were typical of the past, I would have no posts on this thread. In fairness, at least in my case, their attitude has changed and I am grateful and as happy to tell others about that as I was unhappy about persistent issues. If I had charged them for MY time arranging and waiting for the now going on 13 service calls over 4 appliances however, a buyback, upcharge for new oven research, purchase, shipping and installation etc. I would be near paying for the appliances. Stuff goes wrong. That's life. When it goes wrong repeatedly -- that's another issue. If all goes well, things at my house will be resolved and we can merrily go on to conversations about freedom columns, er fries, er French columns. French fridges? French doors? French bread (as long as the oven heats fast enough!) LOL...See MoreViking vs GE Profile Fridge Recommendations
Comments (2)I would go with at least a 42 inch wide model, we went with a 48" and even though we are older and only 2 of us, I'm sure glad we did. I was a bit surprised to see GE at the bottom, (They replaced SZ). I'm sure you noticed what #1 was, and has been since 2005? Ours has lived up to it's position on CR, nary a problem. Well lit, love the different temp zones and how easy it is to change the filter and vacuum the condensor (once a year)---not 4 times, like the manual in the expensive competitors recommends. Ours has the Variable Speed Compressor, and I can tell you, that thing is QUIET----I still can't tell when it is running----that can be a disadvantage thou----I have an Elux wine fridge, and I can hear it running---when it starts to run more often and longer, I know it is time to clean the filter-----The JA gives me no such messages so I gotta remember to clean it--alto the filter for the ice maker hasta be changed once a year , and a lite comes on to tell you to change it--and I clean the condensor at the same time---so I guess , Not a problem. The only reason I can't "Heartily endorse" the Jenn-air is that now they are "Price Fixed", I bought my 48" "built in" (Note Purest, I did not say "Integrated") in 2005 for $4588, you will pay more than that for probably a 36" and that "Bugs Me" (a 42" for sure will be more than $4558). There was a post on here that claims "ALL Whirlpool built Fridges now use the Variable Speed Compressor"--yet another poster I consider "Knowledgible" says only Jenn-air. If all the Whirlpools have the Variable Speed Compressor, then I would look at the Kitchen Aid and other Whirlpool Fridges as they are less expensive and you may be able to "Deal", but Make sure!!! It has that compressor as we keep getting "Mixed Signals" Here! Good luck with your decisions (Think Hard about going Wider)!!! Comments (23)If i was a betting man...i would go with what ZL700 says. I personally think its the defrost timer. While it might close & open the contacts to the heater when you turn it by hand, it's motor could be shorted out or the plug to the timer could be loose. Lets say the plug to the timer isnt making good connection. The compressor runs its normal cooling cycle, cooling, freezing & building up ice on the evaporator the way it was designed too. After 8-12 hours the unit should go into defrost, melt the ice on evaporator and drain the water out to the pan by the compressor...but it never goes into defrost. So more & more ice slowly builds up around everything and finally after a several failed defrost cycles, it does kick into defrost. 12 - 30 minutes of defrost time, every several days, might not be enough to melt all the ice and have it drain out in time before the cooling cycle starts all over again. If you have already spent $500.00 on repairs that didnt solve the problem, spend another $20.00 for a defrost time and see if that doesnt work. Hope this helps...See MoreGE Counter-Depth French Door Fridge is broken after 2 months!!!
Comments (5)Yes, this particular model number came out in 2014 but what really matters is the underlying design. Often they'll make minor aesthetic/interior improvements from year to year and change the model number. My fridge is the same basic design as this one. I've talked to repairmen who've had to repair multiple of the same Whirlpool, Frigidaire, GE, Samsung, LG, etc. fridges for no cooling. This repairman's anecdotes, especially given that he works for GE and only sees their appliances, don't really say anything about its reliability compared to the competition. This experience certainly was terrible and I'm not trying to excuse that... just trying to convey to future readers that avoiding one particular brand won't really make you less likely to run into a situation like this. None of them are made like they used to, and there are instances of crappy service with all of them. The only way to statistically improve your chances of getting a good fridge is to buy a very basic, no-frills top mount with mechanical controls, and the only way to improve your chances of excellent customer service are to buy a SubZero....See Morenlion
