Can you view the contents of these files in any way? Do you have backups?

The "less bright" appearance is called "grayed out" and it typically means that something is not accessible. I'm guessing that somehow the folders or the folder/file associations got damaged. This could mean that they are lost. I'm sorry, but I don't know how to fix this. Did this appear immediately after you got rid of the Trojan? The only thing I can suggest is to try to back in time using System Restore. (I don't know that I would recommend going back further than the time that you acquired the Trojan, though.)

As I mentioned above, I can go into the greyed out folder and double click on a picture and it works...Links which are in the other folders also work as do the greyed out icons.I tried making a new folder, with the same or slightly different name and transfering the pics over to it...the folder appears normal until the pics are transfered then becomes greyed out too..On a different computer now, but noticed something else that was odd...when I double click on one of the pics inside of the greyed out folder, it comes up in a format which doesnt allow right clicking and saving as does a normal photo in any other location..I dont want to restore, as the Plantstep data base for my daylillies was just sorted out...I can save the data, but it does not save the pics that go with each lily...quite a bit of work to reload all those and not looking forward to doing it again..the only thing can think of doing is rebuild all the different folders that are affected with new links or new pictures and create new shortcuts for those shortcuts that are affected

Gene take a squint here and here to see if it covers your problem. Both require you to modify the registry.

I got fascinated because I had this issue with icons showing in my DVD drive long ago which were greyed out using Windows Explorer.

Thanks owbist, but the problem does not lie in the taskbar icons which both the links seem to address..its only a matter of concern with some desktop icons, file folders and shortcuts. Rather not mess in the registry..I believe that the best and maybe the surest way is to rebuild those icons, file folders and shortcuts..if that doesnt work than maybe something more drastic

The pics open in Windows Photo gallery...I right clicked on a couple of them and had them open in Windows but the program still will not see them when I browse to them..So, going to have to take new pics of the lillies and make new folders..not a big problem..Was just wondering if there was a fix for this should it happen again or to someone else

Might hold down shift & right click on one of the messed up items. From the context menu select 'copy path' .... & then paste into notepad. See if the whole path and file extension looks correct?

My first thoughts were the properties on the grayed out items are marked hidden or system. Or the security permissions are changed.

genes since this happened after cleaning up from infection at LzD I think I would go back to your original thread there and post about this, Corrine or one of the expert team there may know how to resolve this problem they may have encountered it before. Since they had you use some special tools they may know more about what they do and if they may have caused this to happen.
It is sounding like a path changed or it's attributes did, I know I have seen in the past some things changed to archive only for example.

Folders that contained shortcuts to different sites ie: Forums (which contain shortcuts to all the forums I belong to), you open up the page to the site and create another shortcut to the desktop. You then create a new folder for these new shortcuts ie: Forums new, then transfer each of the new short cuts to the new folder..When you are finished, right click on the old folder and delete it..
