DH says I don't need a warming drawer....
Comments (61)I don't have a warming drawer, but am planning on one in our new home. I want it for proofing bread, making yogurt, keeping foods warm till serving time, warming plates, I'm looking at the DCS because it seems to be the deepest and should be able to hold my crock while proofing bread dough. If the temp goes high enough, I think it could also hold my canning jars while waiting to be filled. So I'm sure I'd be using it several times daily. Currently I use my Excalibur dehydrator for a good deal of defrosting of frozen foods; and I also use it for quickly drying my blender container, my olive oil jar, and plastic tupperwares. But I think the warming drawer might function almost as well and would hold a lot more....See MoreFiling cabinets versus drawers
Comments (12)I'm w/ your DH--if that 10-drawer setup works for you, get a good one. Don't switch to file boxes, etc., just because they work for other people. In a way, you've got the best situation of all--an inexpensive solution proved to you that this WORKS. go with it. (it does actually work right now, right?) The toughest part is, how tall are those individual drawers? There's a catlog company I've used --www.homedecorators.com -- that has several multi-drawer cabinets or dressers or art carts. Try this seven-drawer storage chest with a slightly chinoiserie style (it also comes in 5-drawer) And the Stanton brand has this 8-drawer one that's pretty tall; there are more sizes; do a search on "Stanton" and "cart" I like the idea of lots of drawers, because they end up like little cubbyholes. They're usually pretty shallow, so you don't end up w/ lots of stuff crammed in there, and you can compartmentalize pretty easily....See MoreGetting rid of file cabinet, where or how do I store small files?
Comments (18)DD50: That sounds ideal, but we don't have a Home Goods store in the small ocean side town that I live in. Unfortunately we have already lost 4 businesses in this small town, and a furniture store bearing a sign, asking for a bail-out, believe it or not! We DO have an antique store that is closing and right now it is 40% off. The woman wants out, and I did find two pieces of furniture that would work for my situation, but her prices are still too high. I will check again with her in a week to see if I can get her to drop lower. I have tried Freecycle and Craigslist and am active with both, and the file cabinet is a bit rusty that I don't think anyone would want it. Lena: You are most certainly correct. My words exactly!! We are headed for Depression. Closet space is ample, 'busy' but not crowded, but not an option for the file cabinet as I already have a small chest in there holding extra linens, one box of photo albums, etc....See Morefiling cabinet using kitchen cabinets
Comments (1)Most lines have office cabinets available. Office height is shorter, at 30" rather than the 36" of kitchen cabinets. All will have a hanging file ready file cabinet as well. But, in this electronic day and age, why do you need to dedicate space for paper storage, much less a non mobile desk type area? A scanner will record any receipts or other paper than you have, then electronically file them on a hard drive, make backup copies on a jump drive or CD, and you don't need to dedicate volumes of space to their storage. It's the same with an "office" space. If you can use the space for a sewing area, or to roll out dough, or any of a couple of other tasks than will need a lower counter, then go ahead. But for 99% of people, a laptop means that their office exists in the easy chair in front of the TV or the swing out in the yard, or even the master bath throne room if they want it to. A fixed office space only need to consist of that scanner, a printer, and a router. That takes about 2' of linear space, as the scanner and printer are the same animal for most. That means it can be located just about anywhere it can get a bit of ventilation....See Moremainegrammy
