Hello, Well it's taking me a few days to get back to you. We have had thunderstorms here for the last couple of days and it finally cleared. This computer has been unpluged because of severe storms, so sorry I am late getting back to you. Randy: I tried CCleaner on one of my computers a few years back and for some reason it never downloaded right, so I decided not to try and install it again and removed what was there. Zep516:I think some of the problem with these 2 programs in particular is when they are updated they end up starting up again--yes another poorly written program. You are absolutely right there. The people who built this computer took out the icon and also took it out of startup and when I updated it the icon etc came back. I have no idea what they used to get Kodak EasyShare out of the startup program and remove the icon. QuickStart has always been there but I just right click on it and shut it down. I also do the same for Kodak EasyShare. DA: I have heard of WinPatrol but have never used it. I was pretty new here when these programs were brought up and I was afraid to try anything that I didn't understand. No ones fault, just mine and me being scared to try them. Winpatrol will want to be part of the startup too. So it also has to be disabled and then it will be an on-demand utility. After its inital use and any other future usage you will only have to close WP from the Notification Area by right-clicking on the icon. Aren't there any programs out there that doesn't want to be a part of startup? It seems to me that you are just trading one program for another that wants to go to startup. Am I correct in thinking this? Also, remember I stated disable not delete. Delete is permanent, disable is temporary. Got Ya! "Wink" Oh no, just went downstairs and part of my basement is flooded. do you have Paint Shop Pro on your pc? if so it sounds like it is having some type of problem, check to see if the program is running if so shut it down, also try a simple reboot. I would also check in msconfig and see if it is in your startup menu if so remove it from the start up menu, when you change the start up menu then reboot you will get a message pop up, on that just click do not show this message.

Cause: Drive Letter Access (DLA) has become corrupted or may not be compatible with other applications, such as Packet Writing Utilities, on your system. The easiest way to resolve this issue is to disable DLA: 1. Go to Start --> Run 2. Type "msconfig" in the Open: box and click OK. This will launch the System Configuration Utility (SCU). 3. In the SCU, choose the Startup tab 4. Look for the Startup Item "tfswctrl.exe" or "tfswctrl" and uncheck it. 5. Click Apply and then Close 6. A dialog window will open. Choose Restart. 7. After restarting, a new dialog window will pop up saying your system configuration has changed. Check the box at the end of the message to stop the message from reappearing. Click OK. If you continue to have issues with crashing, you may want to remove DLA all together: 1. Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs 2. Locate Sonic DLA or Drive Letter Access from the list of applications 3. Choose Remove it can be from a roxio cd record program that you may have or an hp or veritas, if you have say a roxio program then you could go do an update to the program and get the newer versions. To disable it through services: 1. Open your Start menu. 2. Click Run 3. In the command screen type: msconfig 4. In the "system configuration utility", Click "services" tab 5. Uncheck all services by that name. 6. Click "OK"

I'm reinstalling everything after a hard drive crash. I had the Startup control panel previously, and there was also a web site (castle something?) that explained what all the abbreviations were in the startup so you knew what to uncheck or leave alone. Can anyone point to the site?
