I hope we will do better in our new house! I am only in the putting up studs phase and don't care about my current home. I do my best to keep the dishes and clothes washed but not into dusting.

LOL!! I'm with you! We are almost done building our house (ourselves) and after working all day then working on the house, the last thing either of us have in mind is cleaning. I keep the dishes done - when we run out of clean ones ;) and DH keeps the laundry up enough that we have clean draw's for work. That's it. Dusting, vacuuming, what's that? :)

I can feel it slipping too! *Especially since this house will be torn down.

I am super organized, think Martha gone wild. With everything in boxes, I can't even remember what we own, much less where it is!

I can't wait for actual closets, space, shelves... ahh, it will be so WONDERFUL!

Oi Vey do I feel that pain! Don't care about squat in this house. Problem is that it is for sale so I must keep it clean. I had a shrew attack and got all over DH about his muddy shoes on my newly mopped floor. I had to call and apologize. I'm usually the clean the house good every other week type and keep it picked up in between. We move at the end of July and I will be glad to see the end of it. I know some people say not to show a house empty but if I leave furniture I will have to dust it. No way!!!! It's not like I hate this house either, I am just looking forward.

If you're 4mths out from moving, do yourself a favor and start cleaning out drawers/closets now. Start packing with 2 mths to go. It will creep up on you!

LOL, when I read the title I thought you meant the cleaning at your NEW build and immediately thought "Oh good, someone else feels my pain!"

DH is our GC, so cleanup on site goes to me (lucky me eh?), and it never friggin fails, that after a good site cleanup, some other crew comes in and messes the dang thing up again! Case in point: I spent 5 backbreaking SOLID hours cleaning up after the drywall crew (without stairs for our 2nd story I might add!) and the very next business day, our stair installers arrived. Our risers & stairs were built offsite, but all banisters had to be constructed onsite and I can't TELL YOU what a mess they've made!

DH thinks it's funny and of course didn't tell me this would happen, I think his playing on my naivety is cruel don't you?

Needless to say, I couldn't care less about the dustbunnies where we are staying. Dishes, a good meal, and clean laundry is the best I can do. To heck with soap scum & dirty toilets. 4 weeks and counting.....I figure I have to clean when we leave so that's good enough lol.

Weeds in the garden, dust-bunnies in the corners, smudges on the windows and boxes everywhere! I have my wall of light fixtures in the diningroom and plumbing fixtures piled in the corner of the livingroom. My diningroom table is inaccessible because it's piled with tile, paint, stain and granite samples. I don't even want to think about what my car looks like right now!

It's hard to clean around this stuff!

There's a whole lot of dust bunnies running around our house too! Boxes piled all over. I REFUSE to let anyone in the house anymore.

One good things is after packing so much in anticipation of moving I've realized how much I can live without. While packing I was getting rid of things but once I get to unpack more will be going. If I could just get DH to get rid of stuff!

All I can say is ditto to most of the above posts!! No will to do anything in this house, but have to keep it clean as we'll be here a while longer. I hope by the time I move to my new house I don't become a complete slob. HA!

Thank you so much for starting this thread. I thought I was the only one who couldn't get things together. We are living on site and the house that we are in will be "burned" when we move into the new one. Every morning I get up thinking that I will clean up this mess, but then I go out to the new house and pick up stuff, or meet with a sub-contractor or answer questions. I had 3 people stop by today to either check out where we are in the build, or see if we need more quotes, or get ready to come in next week. We are framed and have the plumbers working and HVAC in the wings. All I can do is dream about the new house... the old one is just a "piece." Every time a car drives in I cringe, and rush out to meet them at the gate, 1) so the dog doesn't eat them and 2) so they won't enter the "pig sty"

DH and I are terrible housekeepers to begin with, and as soon as we started PLANNING on building a new house, we let our current house (and yard) go to crap. It's horrible.
When we lose things, we don't even look for them anymore. We just say, "We'll find it when we move." LOL!

superchick, I read this post last night right before I went to bed, and giggled my way to sleep becasue of your "our give-a-sh-tter is broken"!! Oh, my. I am going to adopt your phrase, because it and all of the above posts thoroughly explain my life right now! I am doing the best I can to keep up with the laundry for six people, aside from that, there are simply not enough hours in the day!! Glad it is not just me.

this is so funny i found this forum, cause you know what we are finally moved in after 8 months of building and I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE that was not worried about the old house...LOL iam a very clean and neat person, but GESHHH my self i was at my NEW house everyday doing something by the time we got home it was late and THEN had to grab something to eat..I KNOW THE FEELING...o and DID ANYONE still building OMG EAT FAST FOOD ALOT it seemed...LOL i know we did cause i didnt cook much ALMOST like your LIFE SURROUNDED the new house with the stress and all....SO I KNOW what yall mean, i so thought it was just ME on that situation hahahah

Superchick, does this count? We're not even building a home and I've lost my will to clean! (I think it's menopausal, actually!).

I enjoy the posts on this forum and the comraderie here. We're doing a couple of additions and a kitchen remodel, and even in this forum I've surprised myself at how much there is to learn.

OMG, we have very little motivation for cleaning whatsoever!!!!!!!!!!!!! The new house should be complete by mid-end of Aug. I am normally very neat & tidy, but have no desire to keep this 1100 sq. ft. apt. clean @ all. I do keep the toilets clean (that would drive me crazy), the dishes & clothes washed, but everything else can go to hell right now! And I thought I was the only one feeling this way!

I am so glad you posted this. I needed a good laugh. I was feeling so down on myself awhile back as I was scrubbing the windows in our old house and berating myself for not keeping up with the housework before we moved. We moved into our new home in March and kept the old house as a rental property. We were painfully slow in moving our stuff out as we wanted to weed through all our junk and threw away loads of stuff. Now our renters are moving in on Saturday and the wife used to be a professional cleaner. She looked around the house the other day and said that everything was great except it needed a thorough cleaning. I've been cleaning that place for weeks - didn't completely realize at the time how we had let it go those last few months. Oh well. At least the new place is clean. Maybe our renter will take better care of the old place than we did. LOL. We can hope - don't see how they could be much worse.

Okay, I tried to break out of the stupor I've been in and woke up Sat. morning thinking that if I didn't do SOMETHING to the old house to clean it up, I was going to go insane(clutter drives me nuts...). It was all I could do to pick up, dust, vacuum, do the dishes, etc. But I did manage to make it bearable. Although I didn't even attempt the kids' rooms. I just shut the door and went on!
Did a bunch of laundry... then DH comes home that night and says "did you switch detergent? I'm itching like crazy!" Yes, accidently bought wrong flavor of detergent, so now I get to re-wash about 4 loads. HA!
He also walked in and got mud or something all over the rug and sheepishly came in to ask how to clean it up. I was thinking, "I don't care if you clean it up or not!" VERY unlike me...
I don't even want to cook. I've been wishing for a professional kitchen for years and now I'm just hoping I haven't forgotten how to cook when it's done!
I'm embarrassed about the bathrooms and how gross the shower is. Never could get it very clean before, but now I'm just thinking I'm going to have to hire a professional to come in when we move so that our tenants won't think I'm a scum bag...

Sooooo agree with you. The only problem is....the old house is still on the market. Cleaned it like crazy last week for an open house and guess what? The realtor didn't advertise and no one showed up!
