Driving myself insane with a Mower choice
Comments (8)There have been a couple of posts like yours this spring and I always recommend at least looking at the Craftsman Professional 42" (model 98980). I bought this tractor earlier in the year and I have been pleased with it. You might get a better deal on a used garden tractor by Deere or someone else but you said you've tried and are running out of time. If that is the case, you need to look at this one before they are all gone. It is less than $2000 and it specs out well against other lawn tractors from John Deere and Cub Cadet. Sears also has free shipping right now to your door on this mower and maybe some other incentives. Go to their website and find this model, then click on special offers to see what is available. If you buy on line with Discover card you get another 5% cash back. I like this mower because it has one of the tightest turn radius' on the market (12"). It also has cruise control, one of the top rated cutting decks, 4 deck scalping wheels, a 24hp ELS Briggs twin, assisted PTO, cut in reverse with button push, heavy gauge metal throughout and lots more features. It is also very, very comfortable with its adjustable high back seat and comes standard with a real nice double bar front brush guard attachment that is very stout. You can side discharge, bag attachment your clippings or mulch with an optional kit. The Pro is made by MTD but is not their usual consumer grade, box store type as it was built to much higher specs and standards mandated by Sears such as "L" frame in 9 gauge steel. Because of the tight turn technology mowers Sears came out with this year, they decided to eliminate this 42" model in their line so there will be no more after they sell out, or at least so I've been told. This is why they are still on close out price. The 28980 model is certainly worth a look by anyone looking for a good deal in lawn tractors....See MoreCat is driving me crazy!
Comments (22)Elly-there has been nothing out of the ordinary going on in my home.No kids here,no other pets that haven't always been here, same litter after trying different ones that didn't make any difference.I tried confining her,no luck there either.Tried Nature's miracle, washed everything I could that she has peed on but she goes right back and pees again. If I put litter boxes in every spot she has peed on they would be lining the walls and on the furniture in every room!LOL We keep the doors to the bedrooms closed and DH normally closes his at night but left it open the night she peed on his bed because it was hot in there. Livvysmom-,I really don't think the Cat Attract litter would help. She uses the litter box ALL the time for pooping, just not all the time for peeing.I do confine her to my bedroom, bathroom and computer room at night and part of the day(they are all connected). Her litter box is in the computer room which is the only feasable place for it.She pees under my bed and in the bathtub at night or if she is confined to those rooms during the day.If I close her up in the computer room she howls and scratches on and under the door all night. She has even pulled up the carpet under the bathroom door because I locked her in there one night!I have even tried taking her water up at night thinking if she doesn't drink water she won't pee.WRONG!!!!LOL I am in the same position as your sister.I can't afford to replace furniture and carpet and as bad as I hate to I may have no other recourse but to put her down.I thought about trying to find her another home but who else would want the problem? I will call the vet Monday and ask about the antibiotics. Anyway, thanks everyone for all the advice and keep the suggestions coming if you have more.......Lillie...See MoreI'm driving myself crazy trying to select large kitchen appliances
Comments (30)Devil's advocate here! While I'm saving for my gas range (high-end pro-style brand TBD) in my new home, I've been using an induction "hot plate." I understand that this isn't quite the same as a full on induction range or cooktop, but how can anybody actually like this? I've enjoyed the quick cook times as long as the pan is in contact with the surface, but if you like to flip your pans, forget it. If the pan isn't in contact with the burner, the burner shuts off, just like it's supposed to do. You can't flame with it (separate lighter, torch, or matches) and you have to buy extra stuff if you have non-induction ready cookware. Not a fan. I'll stick with gas. Yes, it takes more to clean, but it's not a big deal in my opinion. And definitely worth the superior results. There's a reason why chefs use gas, and this adventure with an induction cooktop shows me why....See Morehome ownership woes.. can anyone else relate?
Comments (35)It is rare for anyone to give the advice that GreenDesigns did. Most just ask if you can afford the mortgage, the taxes and the insurance. No one ever talks about what it costs to maintain a house, and it DOES cost! In the 35 years I've been in this house, I've replaced the hot water heater twice, the AC condenser on the upstairs unit twice, the downstairs AC entire HVAC system once. I've also replace the roof 3 times (the 3rd time was due to hail damage 11 months after having replace the roof! - Insurance covers less a 1% deductible of $6,500). I've also replace the gutters and down spouts twice. It's a brick house but the trim/windows were painted innumerable times. I now have aluminum-clad windows so only trim has to be repainted and is probably due to be done in a couple of years. The driveway has had the asphalt re-done once and needs it again - I may get by with just a good top coat. Whomever buys this house someday, will most likely repack the brick sidewalk as there are some cracks in the mortar - probably also the brick front porch that has moved away from the house over the past 71 years. I'm not doing this. I've also had to have part of the basement floor and a long stretch of the basement garage floor dug up and the main waste pipe from the house to the sewer replaced. Over the years, it had settled and was now draining back TOWARD the house, not AWAY from it. I've replaced two toilets, innumerable toilet seats, faucets in baths and kitchen, and tile (floor and walls) in one bathroom. I've also had to have new glass put in the sliding doors on the sun porch when they lost their seal. I'm hoping the ones put in 16 years ago, last until I sell the house in a few years. I've replaced plaster ceilings with wallboard in two rooms and one wall in another, where a leak from the gutter caused massive plaster cracking damage. This is a very well-built house, built in 1948 when houses were well-built and it was an expensive one at that time. We won't even talk about the appliances I've replaced. In addition, I've done extensive re-modeling multiple times. Will I "make money" when I sell? Probably $20-30,000 over what I have in it in total, but then I've also had the ability to live here all these years, so yes, it was a good investment for me, as I will most likely get $450-500,000 from the sale after the mortgage is paid off. All that other expense was spread out over all these years so that will be a welcome chunk of change that can pay for my nursing home for 4-5 years, if I live that long....See Moreremodeling1840
