Sound recorder

19 years ago

I am having a problem with trying to use a microphone with my computer. It is not muted. When I go to "Start-Programs-Accessories-Entertainment", Entertainment says , "empty". I have a Unimodem half-duplex audio device. Is that the sound card? Do I need Office to have a sound recorder? I have XP Home edition. This is a struggle. What do I need to do to use a microphone with this computer? Thanks for your assistance.

In your run line, type in
SndRec32
and see what happens.

Quick yahoo search found something that said;
The unimodem half duplex audio device is not a sound card driver per se, it is software used to enable Telephone Answering Device (TAD) functions of modems that have the capability to be an answering machine as well as a modem.

Thank you Mikie . I got the sound recorder to come up but there is no sound from the microphone. How do you find the info for the sound card? I might need a new driver or full-duplex sound card. I'm wanting to use the Windows Live Messenger with sound and video it looks as though it'll never work.

Nope, not a GTF...after toads, we have more GTS here than anything else this time of year and I am totally familiar with their calls, especially when it's a droughty year and they make those calls from under the rim of the toilet. They can certainly locate the nearest water when necessary. I actually found the suspect making the new calls the other day and it sure looked a lot like one of our chorus frogs, and I know their springtime clicking-the-teeth-on-a-comb call. One thing I don't know is what their non-breeding calls are like. Do they have a rain call? This thing sure could put out a lot of noise for such a small frog.

What is it that you are trying to record ? Maybe someone will tell you how to save that sound. Sound Recorder should have nothing to do with the internet - it would have no reason to access the web that I can think of offhand. There should be no reason it has anything to do with your firewall unless there is a software conflict. It works within windows locally.

Can you do a batch resize/resample so they don't need to be zoomed at all? Or are they being displayed at less than 100% at first? If yes to the second question, there must be a "view" preference to show images at full size (100%), not "fit to screen" or window on initial display.

Might look in 'Device Manager' for the sound card. Double click it and it should offer 'Trouble shoot' and also 'Update Driver'

.. quickest way for me to access device manager is right click my computer on the desktop and choose manage.
