Please Help!! Brand New Shower Head Leaks When Tub is Turned On
Comments (9)First thing I'd do is read the installation instructions to see what is specified there. If they recommend "X" number if vertical inches and you're less than that, or if you used PEX and they specify "no pex" or you used pex that has a smaller inside diameter than the recommended tubing, then essentially you have an installation issue. 1/2" pex does have a smaller inside diameter than 1/2" copper. For delivering water volume to a faucet it's normally not a problem, but when depending on a specified vertical water column, I guess the smaller diameter of the pex could be an issue. I'd call the manufacturer's tech support line and ask them about remediation. No harm no foul, it's best to run ideas past them before you crack open walls. You installed the shower head lower for the kids. Let's say you have yours 25" above the valve and the manufacturer specifies 30". What you could do is have the pipe come vertically out of the valve, and run it up the wall several inches higher than the shower head, say to 40", or even all the way to the top plate of the wall, then add a couple of 90's (to create and inverted "U") and then run it back down to the shower head. That would take care of the vertical issue while allowing you to still have a lowered shower head. If your pex to the tub spout is constricting flow out of the tub spout, that might need to be changed to a larger size of PEX or to copper. Something with a larger inside diameter. You're on your own well so it's likely excessive water pressure isn't an issue. What's on the "back" side of the wall that the valve and plumbing is installed in? Often times it's easier to cut through the back of the wall to access the plumbing, repair the plumbing, then TEST the plumbing, then patch the hole, than it is to access through the shower side of the wall....See MoreHELP Please!! Comments (53)Like it. Well done. Looks neat now and leaves plenty of room to grow. Have you considered adding a basic concrete birdbath to the middle of one of the more open spaces? https://www.allbirdcage.com/large-parakeet-cages/concrete-bird-bath-top/ The bowl is usually separate from the pedestal and can easily be tilted to empty out any dirty water to refill it -- or just hose it out … doesn't take that much longer. You can usually find such yard items on sale at a reduced price in mid to late fall as store are clearing away their garden center products to make room for holiday related items. Do choose one with the bowl smaller at the bottom and wider at the top so if the water freezes, it has room to expand and will not break the bowl. In the meantime, you have room to plant some bulbs or even annuals in the spaces between the shrubs and the sidewalk: you might consider outlining your sidewalk in liriope or something similar that will grow well in your planting zone and survive winter to thrive again the next spring....See MoreIs this grout line too low on my 2 new bathrooms?
Comments (21)I really appreciate the advice. I stopped using the guys once everything appeared to be wrong. Floating vanities were both tilted 1/4 inch per foot. The new LVT had bubbles under it since their “floor leveling” made high spots higher and they didn’t grind it smooth. They also beat the crap out of my brand new, expensive decora cabinets. After being 5 weeks behind schedule with nothing done properly, they were sending the #2 guy on a 2 man crew to caulk around my electrical outlets from 2-3:30pm. I pulled the plug on things then and have been over paying other contractors to redo almost everything. At this point I’m not sure what to do with the original contractor. Despite recommendations, they proved to be incapable. Now I’ve paid them tens of thousands to ruin tens of thousands in supplies. I’ve been focused on getting my home livable during this period but I’m not happy about the added expense after paying them to do a remodel properly....See MorePlumbing Recommendation for Shower Head, Hand Held and Tub Spout
Comments (12)Hi Esme Would love to help you out but not sure what additional information I can provide. What we have works, a diverter tub spout, but It is frustrating when guests use the shower because to send the water to the shower you must pull down on the bottom of the spout and it is not obvious that this piece is there or how to use it. I had wanted a single 3-way diverter that would have diverted the water to the 3 outlets but my plumber goofed from what he told me to purchase for fixtures to the way his workmen plumbed the pipes and valve. I have replaced the 3-way/6 function trim/cartridge which had 3 positions with no water (what would have been tub only, Tub + shower head, Tub + hand held) with a 2 way/3 function diverter. My new plumber was refusing to install the 2-way diverter stating that it wouldn't work properly despite the install instructions that the same rough in valve worked with either the 3-way or 2-way. The Trim Kit included the cartridge so the new 2-way fixture included a compatible cartridge. He installed it, just to prove me wrong, and it worked as I expected! He said he had a customer with the same issue and took the instructions and box so he could recommend how to fix her problem. These are Brizo/Delta Valves and Trim. I don't think the set up I ended up with is the best diverter set up. However, I received conflicting feedback from the Showroom, who consulted their Delta Rep, and the Delta Customer Service, that I contacted, on whether or not Option A (3-way diverter) would work. Good Luck! I really felt like I was the first person to want a tub, shower and hand held configuration with the amount of confusion with the Showroom, Delta and my Plumber....See MoreOlychick
