MSE not running daily auto scans, but is set to do so

I've been using MSE for a few months and have it checked to run an auto, quick scan daily at 10:00am. I did not check the box for it to can when 'puter is on but not in use as I prefer it to run if I'm using it at said time. However, for the past 2 weeks, it has not been automatically running the scan (but definitions are being updated daily) and I have to do run the scan manually. I've looked at all the set ups and everything looks like I have it correct. It used to run them daily, I believe, then sudden stopped. Any one have a clue? Thanks.

just to clarify you do have the computer turned on at that time period daily correct?
it will not scan when off or when in sleep mode. It will perform the scan at the next scheduled time.
You did not tell us if you are running windows 7 but this is how to find the sleep mode option

It can be found by launching "taskschd.msc" from the start menu. You then expand "Task Scheduler Library" to find "Microsoft". From there you will see "Microsoft Antimalware" and then "MP Scheduled Scan".

Under the properties select the "Conditions" tab. Under the "Power" section check:

"Stop if the computer switches to battery power."
and
"Wake the computer to run this task"

If you are using xp

go into the control panel and open up the Task Scheduler. Then select "Advanced" from the pull down menu and then select "View Hidden Tasks".
you should see a task named "MP Scheduled Scan". If you select the properties you will see a settings tab. In the settings tab you will see a power management box. You should check:
"wake the computer to run the task"
and
"stop this task if battery mode begins"

might also quickly click its help down arrow and About.. see if the version is 4 something.. mine says "Security Essentials Version: 4.0.1526.04"

Not too long ago they updated to version 4 and sometimes the update is bad. Pretty simple program to uninstall/reinstall. The updated released version 4 is better for sure.

Azinoh "Maybe we had different download sites?" That's possible. I downloaded directly from www.avast.com. If you did not, who knows what you actually downloaded. Could possibly have something to do with your very slow download also. ========================== Sunday 04-13: My version is 2014.9.0.2013 and now there is a new; 2014.9.0.2016. Well updating from the interface update just didn't seem to go so I went to the Avast.com site to download the dot.exe file. Clicking on download takes you to CNET. I now realize my original download was therefore thru CNET. So much for getting Avast from Avast. From Google it would seem cnet hasn't got the best of reputations any more in fact lots of complaints about extra programs foisted off on ya. Guess so. I went to File Hippo for the 84.55M file. Then googled that and there seems to be problems with the 2014.9.0.2016 version. So I'll skip it for now. Maybe let it age a bit. FH seems to have a good rep but most mssgs I found about them were several years old.

Actually, you're probably better off that they didn't install the new drive. I think that when they do, they just pull the old drive and replace it with a blank one. This way, at least you've got the opportunity to transfer stuff. If I were you, I'd get an external drive enclosure so that you can transfer things from the old drive to the new one. If you have to return the old one to Dell, get something that will completely erase the old drive. Just deleting the files or reformatting leaves it in a state where data can be restored. I've bought refurbished drives before that had sensitive data on them. If you don't have to return it, either buy spinrite to recover the drive as much as possible or drill some holes through it and throw it out.

Hi, Thanks for the responses ! :-) First, my apologies. I'm very neuro-flatulent today. ;-) I need to make two corrections. She uses Avira not Avast. (She had been using Avast and that was causing some trouble, as other users of those two programs noted.) Avira has been working quite well so far. I think my main issue (and my second correction) is the 'nag factor' associated with Online Armor. (I'm afraid my word "conflict" was a case of me accidentally typing the word that was in the back of my mind thinking about the issues mentioned above between Avast (her former AV) and OA. Sorry for the confusion.... :-( ) Anyway, OA constantly asks me to allow/block things when I'm doing updates, scans, etc. Even when I tick the "trust this program" box I still get asked repeatedly to give my permission for things. It's just the inconvenience of it all. And I assume that 'nag factor' would still be there if I replaced Avira with MSE, so I'd gain nothing. (And as far as third-party firewalls go, I do like OA for her XP computer because it seems to pass leak tests better, in my limited experience. So, until MSE comes out with a FW as part of the software (the two-way kind) -- or until my aunt upgrades to something like Windows 7 that has a better FW -- I guess she may as well stay put with Avira and OA.) Also, my aunt does have Spywarblaster, so she's covered there. :-)

HI dancing girl ! Alot has happened since I purchased my pe scan! 2 new embroidery machines 1 old version of Disney then a new version of brother embroidery machine ....I haven used my pe scan but once! I tryed using it yesterday. ....it no longer works! Tryed looking it up on brother website but there is no such item must be so outdated! I took it apart today and fuse is black I need a new fuse ! But I don't know what kind of fuse it is! Brother is closed on Sunday :(. Maybe you know someone with this information the rest of the machine is pristine! But the fuse! ...I JUST ORDER THE BROTHER SCAN N CUT LAST WEEK! I'm so excited I'm wondering if I need this machine anymore now that I have the scan and cut I might be able just to transfer to pe design after I scan on cut n scan or I can just transfer it to my machine after that it sounds complicated to me so if I have to but a new one I might just get the flip pro scanner for brother I found one for 135.oo. so I have to wait till next month unless the cut n scan works?? If anyone knows anything about the only fuse that's inside the pe scan let me know ! I like to use this for lace if I can fix it! Thank you so much!! Dancing girl! !

Running Vista. Yes, computer is on, but, sometimes may be in sleep mode at the time, but not always. I did what you said and the only things I see in the scheduled tasks are Google crap (probably my laptop/tablet sync) and Adobe Flash Updater. I don't see anything scheduled for MSE, yet I have it set to scan daily within the MSE settings. Hummm.

My MSE appears to be up to date.

did you follow the top instructions I gave or the xp ones? You want the top ones for 7 and vista.
You will have to address the sleep mode issue or it will not wake to run.

Uninstall and reboot
Then reinstall ... its so easy.
Do you back settings to run while you work.
