Microsoft Office Outlook question...

I have a one week old brand spankin new laptop...Whenever I open Outlook I'm getting the message "Microsoft Office Outlook A data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is being checked for problems?

What am I doing wrong?

from the seven forums I found this possible fix
"there could be a timing issue if you shut down your PC with outlook running or shut outlook and immediate shut down. Outlook does take some time to shut down fully so you can sometimes get this. If you run task manager and watch the outlook entry when you shut it down you will be able to gauge the shut down time for your system"

data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is being checked for problems.

I had this problem and went to the control panel/programs & features, clicked on MS Office and repair (on the menu bar). It fixed it.

if you qualify as student or teacher you can get it much cheaper from your university, check with them for that. also you can check this offer I use open office which is free and does everything I need. Here is a link that might be useful: student deal

Kath, an elderly friend of mine wants to start using Word. I was thinking she'd have to buy the whole Office suite, which she doesn't need, but a free version of Word would be ideal. How did you get yours? Is it permanently free, or free on a trial basis? Thanks! PS: I like to use keyboard commands whenever possible. Two others that might be useful are Ctrl-S for Save and Ctrl-A to highlight everything at once. Also Ctrl-C for copy and Ctrl-V for paste.

I don't use Outlook, so I'm probably not the one to help. But there is a repair option : How to repair your Outlook personal folder file (.pst) - not sure if that'd work. Also it's possible a filter was mistakenly set : Can't See All Outlook Messages in the Inbox
