Help spring Mom outta the Hospital after 5 wks

Tomorrow will be 5 F***ing weeks that she's in for this stupid resection. She was supposed to be out today [to the rehab] but got stomach sick and spent last night evacuating into the col-bag. She needs some help, please please send all this awesome CF energy back at her one more time.

We need to get her better and out and healthy for her 50th anniversary cruise. She has a great attitude even now so please help her get over this last hurdle. Thank you very very very much you guys all have wonderful spirit and ++ vibes!!

Temps are predicted to drop significantly into the teens over the next 3 to 5 days and snow for tomorrow night and Saturday. Only an inch though. Not enough to cover and do much good. But then next week sometime it's supposed to go back up into the 40s again! What a crazy winter! Snow fall amounts are less than half what it was last year at this time and days above freezing are more than twice as many. I watered my roses today! We haven't had any significant precipitation in several weeks and it has been very sunny the last few days so I thought maybe they'd like a drink. I also think they'll fare better in the cold snap if they're well hydrated. I had to lug gallon jugs of water out, ugh! If this weather does keep on like this I'm going to ask his nibbs to hook the hose back up!

Not only no perfume, but avoid scented personal products of any sort, whether they are soaps, deodorants, skin lotions, cosmetics, hair products, the like. She should always choose the unscented version not matter how pretty the scent of the scented version is. The side benefit is that when she goes out in the evening she can put on her favorite perfume and not worry about conflicting scents getting in the way of the scent she has chosen to wear. Sometimes people wear so many contrasting perfumes they cancel each other out. BTW - my daughter took Benadryl for a while because of severe allergic reactions. I noticed she was becoming very sad. Her allergist told me that Benadryl is a beta blocker, which meant nothing to me, but apparently it can affect a person's mood. It also makes people very drowsy, so she should not drive when she is taking it. For long term use I believe there are better medications, but Benadryl is easily and conveniently available when one needs something quickly. And in an emergency, nothing is better than the Epipen. It can save a person's life and give him time to get to the hospital. I wish your mother a quick recovery and a happy return to her garden. Rosefolly

So Hubby did indeed make it home (though late). We spent a good deal of yesterday cleaning and organizing but we still have a lot to do. With the chaos our life has been for the past several months cleaning (other than the basics) has been a very low priority. CT scan revealed that the mass in her shoulder is non-homogenous, there is definitely infection and the other parts could be abscess, live tumor and/or dead tumor cells. Plan is to do a CT-guided needle biopsy of all the different masses today. She should also get her stomach tube. The battles raging in her body have taken a toll on her in many ways. Probably the most difficult one right now is that she is easily confused and agitated and has no short-term memory. We have to explain to her multiple times where she is and why she's there and what is happening. They put her on oxygen last night (she has developed apnea and shallow breathing due in large part to the meds) and you could see it was really helping her but she kept wanting to take the cannula off. Hubby is at the hospital now hoping to catch up with the oncologist. I suspect he's going to be gone all day. We're still nowhere near ready. Adding to the stress, we came home some time after 11 pm (having spent the evening at the hospital) to discover the newly-vacuumed living room full of garbage and three very dirty and guily chihuahuas. My fault - I had left the (nearly full) garbage can where they could get at it. With a ham bone and other tasties in there it was just too tempting. So we spent our evening scrubbing floors and puppies. At least we hadn't shampooed the carpet yet.

I have put off commenting on both threads regarding this topic. Rarely post,my norm is quiet. Standing back and perusing what is around me. It may take some time for me to say something about another's home, usually when I find a corner with a common bond, but I do try. In the back of my mind is the knowing that within our lives are both family and public with so many different personalities. I know this isn't new to any of you. We meet them everyday and they visit our homes. Each is going to respond differently and may or may not be what we expect. We can continue to interact or not, it is a choice. Even though my personality takes me a while to share, I do feel a bit empty when another doesn't take notice of something done with love in my home or garden. For 5 years I have thought about my not saying anything to a lady who was restoring her home. Was there to wander through her huge, historical gardens. They were tour ready and couldn't get enough of what I saw outside. So huge that a garden group came to help upkeep. Not saying anything about her beautiful new kitchen continues to bothers me and often wonder if she thought about this. It was rude, but not meant to be. I was completely distracted to the outside. On to personalities. I have a son who is definitely a narcissus. One cannot deal with him without walking on eggshells. You never know if something said or done is going to bite you. He is exceptionally bright, a unique scientific career, great sense of humor and people love to hear his stories. I don't think he has ever complimented me or my home, fun little car, accomplishments, etc. He would be the guest who came to visit and it would be all about him. It is very hard for a mom to ignore, but deal with such on a limited basis. My younger son is aware of his surroundings and would do anything for another. One of my favorites is when he said how wonderful my home always was and all that we had done. Yet he always felt welcomed and could make himself comfortable. My husband was almost OCD when it came to everything having it's place, but never pushed this on visitors or the kids hanging around. My daughter is the open and fun gal. She wouldn't miss a chance to say how much was enjoyed and impressed with someone's home or project. This is also true about other people she meets. Did I raise these kids in the same household?

Good vibes heading her way, 5 weeks is a long time to be eating hospital food!

Tell her to click her heels three times and say "There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home...."

I think that'll work.

Mom was so excited to know my friends from CF were on her side you guys clearly made a difference in her progress! She loved to hear that my friends were routing for her I can't tell you how much it meant to her.

Thank you so so much for sending your prayers and thoughts her way. When all this is done and we get her well I promise I will post pictures of all of us renewing our vows on the cruise in October. You'll see what an adorable woman she is!

I know how L O N G my recent 43 day hospital stay was (it seemed like months) so I'm sending loads of good thoughts that you will be out very soon.
