When we brought 2 puppies home at 8 weeks I had a few accidents to deal with while housebreaking them. There was a product, I think it was called "Nature's Miracle" that you sprayed on the areas that had been soiled after you had dabbed and cleaned them thoroughly. The product was fabric safe and was supposed to neutralize any residual odors so that the dog wouldn't be drawn to use the same spot again.

It seemed to work, didn't leave rings or have an odor of its own. Granted, these were small puppies I was dealing with and their piddles were more a nuisance than destructive. There were a couple times when I removed the covers (they had zippers) of cushions on a wicker sofa and sprayed the foam cushion itself, in addition to washing the cover.

Don't know if this helps, but it might spur the memory of someone else who has dealt with this to offer up more hints.

My best suggestion is that, if you haven't already, get some of that Nature's Miracle at a pet store to have on hand.

amck - I use Nature's Miracle on the carpet but I was afraid to try it on my sofa, thanks. Sands, do you mean soak it with baking soda or with laundry detergent with baking soda? And what do you mean by "from the bottom"? when you say "waterfall the cushion" do you mean spraying it with a hose upside down? Sorry for being so obtuse -- are you rolling your eyes at me?!?!?

I have four elderly cats who occasionally have bladder problems, usually on the love seat :-(

Put 1 cup peroxide (the regular stuff from your medicine cabinet) into a container and add 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1 drop of dish detergent. Mix it around and immediately dump onto the urine stain. Make sure you really saturate the entire stain. Let dry a day or two and sniff. Treat again if necessary. Vacuum off the white residue, or wipe with a damp cloth.

For me, this works better than Nature's Miracle, and it's cheap. My love seat is dark blue, and this hasn't faded or discolored the material (and I've cleaned my love seat a lot! LOL!) Give it a try, and good luck. How great of you to foster dogs.

This may be too late, is the stain still wet? If so pour salt onto the area and let dry. The salt will pull the urine out. When completely dry vacumn up the dried salt. Also Lowes sells this product in their cleaning section I think it's called Urine Be Gone, it really does work! I've used it on our carpets! Good luck Gina

Hey Blue, I was thinking the dog peed on the cushion hence the turn it upside down and rinse it with a ton of water from the back - guess that won't work with a whole sofa lol. Did you get the stain out??

Natures Miracle or the similar Simple Solutions etc. there are two or three brands at PetSmart to choose from and they're all the same except for price. You have to ensure that the "spot" is soaked with the stuff so it can remove the smell. When it's dry if there's still a trace of stain then use a fabric safe upholstery cleaner. I happen to think that Folex is the best I've found. Hardware stores carry it. And remember regardless of the upholstery cleaner it sometimes take more than one application over the course of a few days.
