I"ve never been overly impressed with the free version of AA. My experiemces and from my readings I found it always to be "lite" and transparant. I used it in the old days along with S&D as there was nothing else to replace it. Now that there are other more viable options I wonder if AA's time has past. When using AA I have never found anything other than cookies and insignificant data miners. I know of no one else who has ever detected anything significant with it, and delving into my memmory I do not recall anyone here reporting a horrific discovery. The same can be said for the other forums I participate in. I ask, Has anyone ever detected a viable threat on their system using AA? DA

I run Avast antivirus alongside the Zone Alarm firewall and a router, do occasional scans with Avast, Superantispyware, Malwarebytes, and an occasional online scan with ESET. I do all web browsing in 'Sandboxie'. I thought I'd give 'A-squared' a try yesterday and downloaded and installed version 4.5.0. Today I finally got around to doing a scan and it came up with 5 infected files in the Windows directory: C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\systray.exe detected: Trojan.Win32.Genome.dbpb!A2 C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\taskman.exe detected: Trojan.Win32.Genome.dlyp!A2 C:\WINDOWS\system32\systray.exe detected: Trojan.Win32.Genome.dbpb!A2 C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskman.exe detected: Trojan.Win32.Genome.dlyp!A2 C:\WINDOWS\TASKMAN.EXE detected: Trojan.Win32.Genome.dlyp!A2 All of these came up 'clear' with the 'Jotti' and 'Virus Total' online file scanners. Also, I was not scanning with the 'heuristic' setting. I understand that 'false positives' can happen with any scanner, Avast put out a bad 'update' a while back, but this seems to be an ongoing thing with 'A-squared'. If you downloaded them from microsoft, RegistrySmart didnt come from them. That program looks like its subject to all kind of abuses ... probably because ... "RegistrySmart pays you 75% for EVERY sale referred! " Look in its folder hopefully in the "C:\Program Files" list of explorer maybe for an uninstaller ?

What you are referring to here is just a restore capablity that is available following a scan and item(s) removal. Go ahead and delete S&B and do a clean install. Be sure to do a search using the word Spybot for any orphan files so you can remove them before the ionstall. I personally do a reboot between the uninstall and the reinstall of any applications configured to the O/S. Some applications require this on there own others don't. It doesn't hurt anything. I absolutely agree with Owbist, a clean install is superior to an overwrite. DA
