I'm not saying I could do it, but I'd likely try. For instance, this rough beginning using "sed" works on the bbcode you posted above. It's missing a bunch of tags, even the regular [URL] one, but maybe it wouldn't be that difficult to extend. a bad update could affect just the browser or many parts of the Operating system. But it definitely can happen that Internet Explorer fails for one reason or another. Then having an alternative browser to be able to get online is a life saver other wise you have no way to access the web. So yes to your question IE could fail and firefox still work just fine allowing you to access help to fix your IE. If it was one that shut down the entire OS then it won't help that necessarily

It somehow seems wrong that XP/Vista users will be able to upgrade for the same price as Win7 users. Perhaps not because if people decide to go forward and are happy with Win8 but not the performance on the Vista/XP machine then then may buy new. The $40 upgrade then becomes useless of course. Anyone wondering about their computer and Win 8 can try the beta version for free. See here for downloading and tutorial on how to create an .iso DVD or USB drive. IE8 beta is a much improved browser over IE7. The reason new users don't like it is because of the change in appearance, new locations of certain features and the tabbed browsing. If you do try IE8, it can always be uninstalled and will revert back to IE7. But, if a person doesn't like Avant, they most likely won't like IE8. I've used IE8 beta since the first day on XP, Vista, and now on Windows 7 with no problems. I would suggest Firefox 2.0.0.20 now available for download. Dec. 18
