Any particular netbook?????

it is not likely that the netbooks with the current processors and memory will be running Vista or windows 7 with out some added power, that is why currently they all come loaded with either a version of linux or xp. I can not imagine one of them running vista very well at all it takes a lot of processing power. they were created to run linux which is perfect for them since linux takes very little resources to run.

the things that may change are things like size that has already happened the acer one has gone from the 8" to the 10" and changes in keyboard layout and touch pad as they get more comments and info on what needs changing on them.

I was just looking at one on craigslist this weekend at the price they were offering it I was definitely going to buy it but they never answered and never removed the ad which is really frustrating.

If I had my choice I would get the msi wind. I think the Atom processor is a better choice then the VIA, I have a little linux pc with the VIA which works well but it does struggle and not everything recognizes VIA.
In fact I was just today reading an article that a new 12" wind will be coming out soon but of course the price will jump to the over $500 range. To me when you get in those price ranges why not just get a real laptop.

I've read some reviews and pretty much across the board users are missing the larger screens.

I bought myself an HP 10" 1G running XP. I absolutely love this little computer. I have never enjoyed anything as much. It is so light, 1 lb, it fits in my pocket-book, is fast and finds an internet signal like nothing I've experienced. I still can't figure out how it does that. It finds my house signal at my neighbors house and we both live on an acre. I've used it in restaurants (smaller than the menu), in stores, its better than any blackberry. It has a webcam and I put Sype on it which works like a dream.

It has a full screen, meaning it runs to the edge without any border. I have no trouble reading emails or documents. It came with MS Works, and everthing you need to get going. It came with a 4Gig flash drive with various programs, including Adobe Elements, McAfee AV (which I never installed), and a bunch of other things I didn't need. What I liked was the fact it was only set up bare bones so you install what you want from the flash drive.

It came with a 3 cell battery which runs forever. The keyboard is 94% which takes getting used to. I use a wireless mouse as I don't like touchpads. It is so convenient and portable. Once you use it, you'll hardly use your big laptops or desktops for the internet.

Sorry to go on about this little netbook, but I love it!

jane are you using it with an air card or what for your connection when you are away from home?

I know I could hit some hot spots but when on the road driving or just out some place would need some type of access point.

I am going to be out house hunting and really will need something since I have all my listings and resources saved in my bookmarks so was thinking a little net book with firefox and all my bookmarks synced would be good but don't know about getting connections out there.

glad to hear you really love yours, some of the ones on craigslist are by people that just could not get the hang or did not like them, one is a linux one and the person apparently had no clue how to use it, she sure could have wiped the linux out and installed xp on it.

the 10" ones do have a better resolution aspect so do show the webpages full unlike the earlier smaller ones.

Raven, this came with the option of xp or linux, I went with xp because that's what I use on my other machines. I can't find what card it has to find signals, I'm not sure where to look. I don't pay for a phone company signal. I'm amazed how fast it finds a signal, there is no hesitation when travelling with it. I use any signal it can find and it does it automatically, doesn't ask. I have the same protection on this mini I have on my big computers and do not worry about it. I want this to be completely mobile and it is. I do not live in a rural area, thus the ease of finding a signal. It just does it flawlessly.

I use it for so many things. It is so small I can read something standing up, holding it in one hand while I am doing something else. It never loses a connection as I move around. I use it to access my computer at work and can check my schedule, make appts., check patient data, etc. remotely with ease. It is far easier to read than a Blackberry or Palm (which is what we have used.) \
I reasearched before buying and there were complaints that the Atom processor was slow. Nothing is further from the truth. It came with 2 usb's and a card slot which will work different size cards. It does not have a cd/dvd drive but you can use a portable one plugged into a usb.

It is designed for internet use. Although it has MS Works and OE, I wouldn't use it for typing documents (but you could). I use FF, AVG, Malwarebytes, Spyblaster, etc on it and it doesn't slow it down.

I never shut it off and am amazed at the battery-life. I don't know why this little 3 cell lasts longer than my 6/9 cell batteries except it uses little resources.

The beauty is it is designed for internet use and little more. It works like a dream and I'm getting used to the keyboard. It is smaller but the layout is the same. The mini is quiet and runs cool. It only cost $299.00. Mony well spent, I feel.

that is exactly what I needed to know, if it would find a signal on the road or on the go and not need to get an aircard from the phone company. It would of course depend on if there were open unsecure networks to grab a ride on but it sounds like that would be a viable option. I just think it would make the house hunt much easier to be able to have access to all my info which I have stored there and be able to access my firefox bookmarks of the mls listings.

I am currently looking at a couple of lightly used ones on craigslist both are acer one models. I would prefer one with the Atom processor too.

Do you mind my asking where you got yours? I had not looked at the HP but I do like HP products.

Verizon has been running tv adds for one at $199 .. with their service of some kind. If you should need the service seems like a good deal.

I only paid attention to the $199 part for the tiny computer, not the service detail.

This special is for a 2 year contract for their 3G service. The air card is built into the computer. If you ever wanted to change carriers, you're out of luck as far as using 3G is concerned.

I just bought a msi Wind and love it - my daughter liked it so much she had me scope out what's out there - ended up getting her (adult by the way) a EEE1000 Anyway - it has 2 GB ram, 160 hard drive and battery starts out fully charged at 8 hrs.15 min........try and beat that!!!! Mine has a 6 cell and starts out fully charged at 4.5 hrs. so big difference. I just plain love mine, and she loves hers too.

I got mine on QVC the shopping channel. They were selling HP's and it was one of their special items. Just happened to flip the channels and got hooked. I did see the same one at Best Buy one weekend for the same price. I would check their ads.

Mine is 1Gig with 160 HD. These little machines are so tough you can bang them around (I do). They stay cool and are silent. I have no idea how they are built, but they work so well. I saw an Acer with 2G and 150 HD but it comes with Vista basic. The screen was 11" and costs $499.00. I think that's overkill because you woudnt't use these little machines for much more than internet. The screens are small and if you spent hours reading on it your eyes would hurt. But they are 10 times better than reading on a Palm or Blackberry, plus they don't weigh much more.

Well I just ordered one, I am going to be needing something like this for the move and house hunt so might as well just do it plus my birthday and anniversary are this month so he decided this would be the perfect gift.

I am getting a pink Acer Aspire One. It has a 120Gig hard drive and 1Gig of Ram. Does have the Atom N270 processor.
I am looking forward to having a new toy. See I got the pink so that my husband will not end up stealing it from me!

Pink,,, in a few months that'll give your husband a fully qualified reason not to swap with you when he gets a newer model, with the latest & greatest features.

he only uses his work issued laptop which is not allowed to go online anywhere except work so no worries there.
If he decides to get his own I am sure he will get the newest latest version and then I can steal his! I can use any color LOL
I loved the new Vivian Tam version that is out but no way would I pay that much extra for a pretty pc, I actually got the pink one cheaper than the other colors, price matters.

wow that was fast delivery, I had it the day after the email saying it shipped. I am using it now, and must say I am liking it a lot.
Keyboard is not too bad but I have never used a touch pad so that is a problem for me, thankfully I have a mini wireless mouse.

Already loaded firefox with all my bookmarks and add ons. It did come with McAfee suite loaded and active so that will be replaced with avast in short order.
It should serve the purpose well. Even my old eyes are faring fine with it, I just adjusted font type and size for comfort.
