Please help! Which french-door refrigerator LG or KitchenAid
Comments (16)We have the first generation of LG French door, purchased about 4 or 5 years ago for our renovation. At the time, it was the most highly recommended fridge both in here and in other media. Big mistake...we never had any problems with the lights burning, but the cheap plastic interior crisper bins and shelves kept breaking. Now the freezer door will not stay closed. We are getting rid of it and replacing it with the Samsung CD FD. We just purchased it today at Lowe's for $2069...it's about $3300 at Sears. Lowe's is having a big sale, plus some rebates and WA State energy rebates brought it down to the price we got. It's frustrating...originally I wanted the SZ 650, but didn't want to spend 5-6K. Now between the LG and the new Samsung, I could have purchased the SZ. And I hate the idea of getting rid of a fridge only 5 years old...talk about a waste of resources. By the way, customer service at LG was horrible every time I called. Never again....See MoreNew Samsung French Door fridge
Comments (8)bjeanne, I saw the new Samsung today at Best Buys. It was sitting next the the GE Profile. The big difference I saw between the two was in how accessible the freezers are. I know that the Samsung says it's 29 cubic feet and the GE is only 24.5 but the refrigerator space seemed comparable. What I like about the GE was that the freezer had two separate pullout drawers. The Samsung had the one freezer drawer with an upper shelf that slid over a deeper compartment. It seemed to me that the upper freezer drawer/shelf in the Samsung was not as easy to access as the separate upper freezer drawer in the GE Profile. In fact the only way I could reach everything in the upper level drawer of the Samsung was by opening the french doors of the refrigerator. How is this working out for you? Do you find that the upper freezer drawer/shelf is accessible or do you have to work to get things in and out?...See MoreCounter-Depth French Door Fridge? Electrolux, Kitchen Aid, other?
Comments (10)The first version of my new kitchen layout needed a CD FD fridge. After much research, I had decided on the KA pro. Now, my layout has changed to being better with a single door bottom-freezer. I chose the KA again. It's sitting in my garage right now awaiting install next month so I can't give it a review. KA is well-regarded here. During my research, my trusted family friend/appliance salesperson told me she does not recommend Elux appliances because of reliability issues. I was planning on the Elux non-icon ovens despite her advice. She said whatever I do, don't buy one of their fridges. Hard to know as many here like their Elux fridges....See MoreSamsung French-Door fridge, anyone?
Comments (28)As I mentioned previously we have the Samsung with the ice/water dispenser in the door. Had it in our previous fridge and never had a repair in the 10+ years we owned it. With this new Samsung we have only had water drips down the door a couple times in the past 15 months. The key is to train family members to wait a second or two before removing the glass after stopping the water flow so that the last drops of water go in the glass. I did forget to mention in my previous response that when ice is made and drops into the storage bucket it makes a fair amount of noise. After a short while it just became another household noise that we barely notice. Guests will exclaim, "what was that?" but we just pretend we don't know what they are talking about. Try to make them think they are having an auditory hallucination! Even with the noisy ice dropping, we still like the ice and water in the door....See MoreLovesPurple
