New Samsung French Door fridge

Hello all, anyone bought a Samsung french door fridge recently? Samsung released a series labeled with AB instead of AA and I wonder what's the different? According to the energy star, the AB series released in May08. I asked my sale person at lowes, he have no clues.. Please help.

I got the AB one over Memorial Day weekend and one of the differences I believe is in the freezer handle. Lowes had a floor model with a stationary freezer handle but that was the only one they had. I went down the road to Best Buy and bought the similar, one only the freezer has a different release mechanism - supposedly makes it easier to open. I'm happy with it so far but it's just a glorified beverage fridge for the moment since it's upstairs in the unfinished kitchen, not hooked up to water and my old fridge is downstairs in my temporary kitchen.

I have the RF267AARS and looking at the specs for the 267ABRS it looks like the difference is the freezer handle. But there are a couple of things in the interior of the AA (foldable shelves and wine holder) that are not on the AB.

I am very happy with this fridge so far, have had it for 2 months

Hello all, My wife and I ordered a Maytag Ice2O FD fridge a month or so ago (for a very good price), but were never really thrilled with how the fridge looked - don't like the appearance of the ice/water dispenser. What we did like was the freezer drawers. We loved that the drawers are not wire baskets, and that they both come out when the freezer is opened. After hearing of many problems with the circuit boards on the Ice2O, we diceided to look into other brands. As our other appliances will be mostly GE, we were looking at some GE FD fridges. The PFSS6PKWSS seemed to be the best of the bunch, including the new models with 2 separate freezer drawers. We noticed that on some of the fridges, the deli drawer smacks right into the french doors if the doors are not completely open (which we will not be able to do due to a wall on one side of the fridge). The PFSS6PKWSS has a deli drawer that opens up with the french doors open 90 degrees, but my wife was upset that the shelves did not pull forward like on the Ice2O. We knew that Samsung makes the PFSS6PKWSS for GE, and found the Samsung RF267AARS at a Best Buy to look at. We verified that the interiors are exactly the same, except for clear plastic bins on the french doors (they are white on the GE). After pretty much deciding to stick with the Ice2O because of the pull-out shelves, we happened to tug on one of the Samsung fridge shelves and voila! It slid forward, a few inches farther than the Ice2O shelves even! I think we have decided to go ahead and cancel our Ice2O order, and go with the Samsung RF267AARS. So, you Samsung owners out there, how have the fridges been working, how quiet are they, and do you had any complaints about them? Thanks for any replies.

Summerfield, So sorry it took so long to get back to you but we had a lovely power outage this morning so things came to a big halt. I wanted to wait til hubby could be with me so we can look at this together. Yes, you are right - the French Doors should be at the Living Room leading to the bedroom. We forgot that wall is a shear/bearing wall. Sorry for that mix-up. KITCHEN How big is the island? What do you think about moving the prep sink to other end of island? I debated whether to just make my cooktop a range so I can get more space on the left side of my main sink...but my back issues still remain. I went round & round over freezer access in the kitchen but with my idea below - that may be addressed. Why don't we go back to the original L-shaped part of the kitchen (leaving your island in) & put the kitchen freezer elsewhere close by. IDEA: Put kitchen freezer in entry to control center. Recess freezer as far into the vestibule as possible & whatever space is left over,make into storage. Would that be possible? Hubby's words for it: For door directly above entry that leads to vestibule, show door swing to the left against east wall of vestibule. Move west wall of vestibule which is opposite that door to the east to make room for the installation of the present kitchen freezer in what is in the foyer that leads to the control center. (The deck arctic entry will rarely be used by anyone else other than us so it doesn't have to be accommodating so much to gear as the carport entry does.) CONTROL CENTER Could we remove the door from the kitchen entry area into the control center & makea pocket door where the dotted line is between the two cabinets? This would also give me easy access to the kitchen freezer. BATH You are right...please put back pocket door in bathroom :) UTILITY AREA IN BATH Put transom window in bathroom above linen closet. We've decided to heat the main floor with in-floor radiant heating utilizing a boiler-driven thermal system that will be located in the utility room adjacent to the bathroom. Enclose utility area by extending wall that borders rod & shelves to the east ending south of west wall of linen closet. Install wall between west side of linen closet & utility area. Install pocket door opposite what is now the heater. (This also removes the window above the bathroom heater). Within the utility room will be located a direct vent Bedaris boiler about the size of the water heater shown in your latest rendering. Also we will retain the existing water heater shown in the rendering. (Toyo-Tomi fuel oil demand). We have be able to put the surge tank along that utility wall but we'll field fit that as we go. OUTSIDE DIMENSIONS I think I see what I did with the dimensions. I looked at my original and see I put 20 x 16 for the Living Room. I should have put 16 x 20. It's 16' from south to north. I looked at hubby's original graph paper & the outside dimensions for the living area are 32' north to south (living room & bedroom) and the deck adds 12' which brings it to 44'. So sorry for the mix-up. Office heat source: We are going with in-floor radiant heating. I am so sorry for all these changes...we really appreciate all your kind help. GreenDesigns: The difference in shapes...round bowed bar versus flattened flare...will definitely bug me since they will be 10 inches apart. The difference with my Bosch dishwasher does not even phase me since it is 8 feet away. Ordering a set of handles from Samsung will run under $300; I would just like to know if they can be retrofitted to work on a Whirlpool fridge before I order them. I would rather not spend $300 on something that may turn out to be useless. While it would seem on this issue, I am definitely a 1%er, my bank account is not!

No, the AB does have the wine holder and foldable shelves. The two foldable shelves were a big reason for my choosing this fridge. I always seemed to run short of tall spaces for pitchers and milk jugs so the convertible shelves were a big draw. I think the AB is just the newer model with the different freezer door but otherwise the same.

bjeanne, I saw the new Samsung today at Best Buys. It was sitting next the the GE Profile. The big difference I saw between the two was in how accessible the freezers are. I know that the Samsung says it's 29 cubic feet and the GE is only 24.5 but the refrigerator space seemed comparable. What I like about the GE was that the freezer had two separate pullout drawers. The Samsung had the one freezer drawer with an upper shelf that slid over a deeper compartment. It seemed to me that the upper freezer drawer/shelf in the Samsung was not as easy to access as the separate upper freezer drawer in the GE Profile. In fact the only way I could reach everything in the upper level drawer of the Samsung was by opening the french doors of the refrigerator.

How is this working out for you? Do you find that the upper freezer drawer/shelf is accessible or do you have to work to get things in and out?

I haven't found it a problem using the upper freezer drawer and it holds a lot and I haven't had to open the french doors to access anything in the freezer.

Thanks for the clarification on the foldable shelves, stephand...I hadn't seen the new one, just looked a the specs online and it said none in the area of foldable shelves and wine holder. Maybe the Canadian one is different. I sure like the foldable shelves

I'm not quite sure but I noticed the bottom freezer is a tad different. The newer version has the EZ pull-out handle, which is better for your back. It also has the Auto pull-out drawer, which is good because people supposedly forget about that drawer. The difference is minimal or it just depends on your taste.

I have read some bad reviews about the ice maker on this model (267ABRS). Some have complained that it is too loud when it drops ice and slow on producing ice. I also do not know how good Samsung brand is as I have always bought the other name brand fridges (Maytag, Whirlpool,Fridigiare). I am looking at one at Best Buy (fancy handle and all!)

Back again. I did buy the Samsung and love it. But to follow up on my own query about the ice maker...yes it is loud when the ice falls. Thankfully there is a one touch button on the console to turn it off at night...I can live with that. It is keeping up on ice production. Has tons of space with flip up and slide away shelves for tall items. Overall,we love it!
