Installing 30' rangetop where a 30' cooktop was
Comments (20)We replaced a 30" Jenn Air slide in range with a 36" Dacor rangetop. This meant that we had to have the granite cut. We had to purchase a base cabinet for beneath the rangetop. We also removed a 15" cabinet that was to the right of the range and made up the difference by installing a 9" pull out spice rack beside the new 36" base cabinet. The installation is in an island, so we didn't have to deal with upper cabinets. All in all, we are thrilled with the result. It wasn't cheap. Total installation cost was about $3000, which also included installation of a telescoping downdraft ventilation and reconfiguration of another cabinet to accomodate a new double wall oven....See More36" glass cooktop over a 30" wall oven?
Comments (22)Why would you put a wall oven below a cooktop it never makes sense just get a range with the oven alrady there . Why a bumpout at all? IMO that in no way add character just a nasty place to hit my hip when I am working.I love wall ovens for the simple fact they are mounted in a wall where they are easy to use. Just because someone does it does not make it good design. This is everything I would've said. I'm not into the bump out idea....See Morerange over stacked cooktop and under mount oven? Comments (9)In Europe, buying a separate cooktop and wall oven is a very common configuration. So, if you are in that market, I wouldn't hesitate. But in the US, manufacturers don't really plan for this particular configuration. Wall ovens often are too tall, resulting in the door being too close to the floor and the top of the appliances hitting the cooktop. I'd strongly discourage you from going this route. If you do want a cooktop, then put the wall oven at roughly countertop height into one of your cabinets. It'll work much better that way. If you prefer a cooktop, get induction. I would never recommend cooktops for gas; it's just not as functional. Instead, with gas I'd get a rangetop (i.e. controls are on the front face of the cabinet). Bluestar makes a wonderful gas rangetop, by the way. If you do consider Bluestar, do not get the closed burner model. It's not playing to this brand's strength. We occasionally have this discussion on Houzz, and inevitably most people regret their decision, if they don't heed our advice. I strongly discourage you from buying a hood based on looks, only. While a hood looks like a very simple appliance, it is actually one of the more difficult things to get right. You'll regret your decision if you end up with something that looks good, but that is otherwise just noisy and doesn't actually vent. I probably would buy from a reputable vendor such as ModernAire or VentAHood, rather than from a general-purpose vendor. Miele makes great appliances in general, but vent hoods are really not their specialty. I am not even sure they make their own rather than rebranding somebody else's product....See More30" range hood over 36" cooktop
Comments (15)This appears to be the Jenn-Air JGC3536GS 36" gas cooktop which requires a 42" opening above the cooktop and a minimum 30" "clearance between top of cooktop platform and bottom of uncovered wood or metal cabinet cabinet". This location is suitable only for a 30" cooktop if the hood is replaced with one 36" wide....See Moreattofarad
