Patricia Colwell Consulting I tried to explain. all induction slide in ranges have an endcap that doesnt allow that bumpout look. The range is not my work space and not worried about hitting it. This is what I wanted for a little extra design being that my 11 foot island will be a plain rectangle with no added detail edge. This kitchen design is definitely functional, that is not my worry. Im putting all this money into it, I want it to be aesthetically attractive as well. but thank you.

Concerns of the heat of the oven while in front of cooktop. sounds like a good point. dont know what the exhaust will be like.

Have you seen anywhere the bumped out design the way you want it? Usually, people want everything flush, but everyone has his/her own preferences. I tried to find online something to see what look you are going for, but I couldn't.

More unnecessary frippery that is counter to functionality. And that is ruining the clean modern lines of the house.

These bumpouts are usually done with sinks, not cooktops. (I understand you did it clt3.)

My only caution is to suggest you go somewhere that has a wall oven installed under the counter. These ovens are much lower to the floor than the oven in a range. If you are tall (or even on the high side of average), you may find that it's too low.

We considered this but our KD actually said it wasn't a good idea b/c of how low the ovens are. She took us to one mounted under the counter and when I opened it, the door handle just barely cleared the floor and the oven cavity was very low. We immediately nixed the idea!

So, find one installed and try "using" it. Put in/take out a heavy item and see if you're OK with the low installation.

Personally, I'd rather find someplace else for the oven and put drawers under the cooktop for pots & pans.

The 30" Bosch slide-in Benchmark and 800 series ranges have a slightly raised ventilation area along the rear. This doesn't prevent them from being installed in an island or other location without a wall to bump up against.. The Miele induction range has nothing to prevent island or similar installation. The Frigidaire slide-in appears to be the same.

I’m surprised to see this post - according to your other post - about your fridge + cabinets - you were pretty adamant that you weren’t taking suggestions for this portion of the kitchen... Also buehl makes a good point about the height of the oven (under a cooktop) - you should definitely find one in a showroom and test it for yourself

damiarain When I sent the specs to the cabinet maker for the appliances, he said I cant do the slide in with the bump outs. thats why. Im running into so many dilemmas now.

Maybe the cabinet maker that you chose “can’t” do it. And maybe you should get a different cabinet maker. And a Kitchen Designer. A lotta don’t know what you don’t know here is gonna bite with Jaws sized teeth.

Why would you put a wall oven below a cooktop it never makes sense just get a range with the oven alrady there . Why a bumpout at all? IMO that in no way add character just a nasty place to hit my hip when I am working.I love wall ovens for the simple fact they are mounted in a wall where they are easy to use. Just because someone does it does not make it good design.

This is everything I would've said. I'm not into the bump out idea.

In the planning of our new kitchen I don't want the look of a range. I have a cooktop now and want another in the new kitchen. I like the look and function of a cooktop over a range. I do agree that the bump-out is now something I don't want after seeing the pictures that are posted. I'll still work, with my architect, on a cooktop with an oven underneath with a straight linear look countertop. No bump out! Great discussion!

I think the straight linear European look is very contemporary, cold looking and blah. It's just a wall. Need counters to lean on. But this is just my opinion. There is something for everybody.
