30'' or 34'' Hood For 30'' Gas Cooktop?
Comments (3)This topic comes up a lot. I'm a firm believer from personal eperience that the depth of the hood from front to back is more important than the width so I'd recommend a 30" wide hood with a depth of 27". Of course, some people believe that the hood should be 3" wider on each side, so a 30" cooktop should have a 36" hood. Where did you encounter a 34" hood - I've never seen one....See MoreRecommendations for island range hood over 36" bluestar range top?
Comments (3)Hoods that try to mimic actual commercial hoods while retaining a more modest size, practical aspect, and decent aesthetics are widely available from many sources that can be found on the Internet. For example, you can download the Wolf Design Guide and look at the pro island hoods to get an idea. There are others fabricating similar designs. While this is a necessary exercise, the first step is characterizing the parameters of the hood, blower, and make-up air system. To do this, it is necessary to start with the size of the cooktop. If you have already done all the math and know your necessary hood size, then a tour of hood makers' wares is next. Please keep in mind that of performance, aesthetics, and affordability, generally only two out of three can be maximized. Most hoods are compromises within these factors....See Moreviking 30” induction cooktop discussion
Comments (18)Johnn - That's so great to know. So many have nothing but bad things to say about the Viking. I'm glad you are not having any problems and like the way it cooks. My guess looking at the photo is that you don't have any problems cooking in a pan that is larger than the 9 inch burner. It also seems you may be using All Clad d3 stainless. How is the performance? Is that why you are hearing the buzzing? I need a new set of pots, but have been struggling as I don't like the All Clad handles. They just aren't comfortable for me. However, AC has come out with a compact line that has different handles that are comfortable for me. I also love the Williams Sonomo Thermo-Clad. People on this site are crazy about the Demeyere. The Atlantis is too heavy for me and the 5plus I didn't think was that great looking. Thoughts?...See More24" cooktop over 30" wall oven
Comments (35)I thought through different furniture arrangements in your living space. To maintain enough room for a minimal seating plan with a minimal dining plan, I think it is best to only extend a run of cabinetry on the back wall about 4-5 feet (align with the wall near the entry - marked in red). You really don't want to forsake a comfortable living and dining space for something like a peninsula. It's not ideal to see the refrigerator when you enter the public space of a home, so that's one of this idea's compromises. On the other hand, work centers in an L shape and in the order frige-DW-sink-worktop-range is optimal. There's not a lot to be gained by adding storage to the bathroom wall in this configuration. I also appreciate that you really dislike your narrow aisle. I thought an eat-in solution that could add occasional worktop might be a table hung on the wall that folds up/down....See MoreThe Kitchen Place
