I feel so irresponsible...forgot windows vista

login password... should of made the pw disk but thought I should remember...nope...I cannot...Iwrote it down but it could be any combination of upper and lower case...I did some research and on the MS site it says I'll need to reinstall...I'm hoping that maybe there's a trusted utility that you have used or can recommend? I wish I can stop kicking myself!

I have a special notebook I keep all my important passwords in which I keep locked away somewhere. The login password is absolutely so important you should always make sure that one is written down somewhere and if something should happen to you, who ever you want to be in charge should have knowledge of that.

Here is a site that list a few free programs to try, I have no knowledge of them so can not give opinions.

How to change your password in Windows XP.
I can't say about Vista. Read your manuel sometimes they will
tell you how to remove your password. Dell Dimension 2300 does

Lost password, Change Password or Delete Password on XP User Accounts with Admin or limited Privileges.
This procedure only works if you can enter safe mode thru the hidden Admin Account
1-Boot to Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key while booting
2-Choose safe mode, Press Enter
3-Select operating system, Press Enter
4-Click Administrator Account
5-Windows is running in Safe Mode, Click YES
6-At the Safe Mode Desktop, click, Start, Control Panel
7-Double click User Accounts, Here you can delete accounts, delete/change passwords ETC.
8-When done Close all Windows
9-Restart Computer
2nd. method.
Using Start - Run to change Password.
Click on Start-Run, type: CONTROL userpasswords2, then click on OK. When the "User Accounts" window loads, click once on the username you wish to change the password for, then click on the "Reset Password" button. At the next window, type the new password twice, then click on OK and restart the computer. You'll need to use the new password when you access the login to the normal user again.

After much debate, I decided on XP because of software compatibility issues and information sharing between the new computer and the older XP. Both computers are used for work and must work together. I purchased the new computer to upgrade, down-the-line, to Vista. One problem I didn't consider was MS Office. The new machine was only sold with Office 07. The older machine has Office 03. All Word docs have to be saved at 03 docs on the new machine in order to be opened on the older machine. I guess it depends on what you use it for. I didn't have time to fool with getting Vista to work with what I need for work.

The whole 'If it was meant to be' thing is taking hold bringing me back to reality and I may just stencil a few flour grain type sack pillows w/ a silver sage crown or something instead for my leather chairs. That's been on my mind to do anyways. I will try calling PBO though just to at least see what the price is if they have them. Roseabbey - RHO is Restoration Hardware Outlet. Cyn427 - I have almost the exact same RH covers but in Stone in a paisley print. I love them but my room suddenly became all one monotonous sea of brown. Might have to pull them out this wknd. You don't "find" the clipboard...you use it. If something has been COPIED to the clipboard (text, for example)... you're supposed to PASTE it into a program that handles text (a word processor, for example). Same with a picture...except a different program is probably needed (an image viewer...Irfanview, for example). An email program might be able to handle both...if (for example) you wanted to send someone both text and an image. Once the desired content has been COPIED and PASTED into the desired application...you can save it as a file...print it...or do whatever floats your boat.

If you still need help, let us know. I don't have a Vista system available, but I've used Linux to reset XP passwords before. It has been a while, so I'd want to test the process. I think the same approach would work in Vista and XP.
