an old thread on puppy names

I found an old thread using Google, but I can't seem to reinvigorate it by posting to the thread, but here's the update. Remember when I was looking for a name for my Summer of Love puppy? I decided on Fairegold's Mr, Tambourine Man, called Owsley.

That was September or October of 2007.

Here's what I wrote today:

Here's resurrecting an old thread to announce that today, our boy Owsley officially added that "Champion" to his name. He was just 18 months old on the 4th of the month, and only needed two points to finish this weekend, two one-point shows. He took the point yesterday, and today, but then he upped the ante by taking best of breed (over #5 Golden in the country!)

So we wait all day (sipping champagne with friends) until the last group, and what do you know, he wins the Group!!!!! We are so thrilled!

So on to Best in Show.....

....

...

and the Giant Schnauzer who won at Westminster took it. But the BIS judge kept walking by Owsley and petting him on the head. The group judge later told us to take him home and let him grow up. ;)

Last fall we hesitatingly allowed Owsley to move in with good friends Paul and Janis after Paul fell in love with the O Boy. There was no resisting Paul, and we feel we didn't lose our dog, we gained more family with Paul and Janis.

For a picture of Owsley last summer, go to www.k9data,com and enter his registered name.

Here is a link that might be useful: k9data

Piper, I wouldn't give you two cents for the Dog Whisperer. Ian Dunbar is much better, and so is clicker training. Anyway, I hope that in the end little Piper fared well and got the help she needed. I'm glad you're happy with your current dog. :) Thanks for your kind wishes. Kartwheel, I hear you. I like to use human names, but it's best to use less popular ones because otherwise there's always someone who knows and dislikes someone by that name. :/ Ines, lol on the stripper name. Candy Barr, wasn't it? How about I name her ChooChoo Carain? haha Keely is Irish, yes. Her kennel name is spelled weird (Irish weird) but is pronounced Caley. So Caley's Keely would be pretty funny haha. Yes, my first little Wheaten girl was named Bridgette and was a real sweetheart. I dunno about Morgan, but maybe. So now it's between Ivy, Bonnie and Ruby.

Its between Bronson and Addai! I prefer Bronson.. sounds like a strong dog! Of course I'm losing b/c everyone around us seems to think Addai is great for a name. Luckily I'll be happy with either. Our new pup will be coming home Saturday morning!! I'm VERY VERY excited! I've been puppy proofing the house all week!(which actually has been great b/c it forces me to sorta "spring clean")

Suggestions for naming a small black Cockapoo puppy

To me, naming them their color is too cliche but occasionally it can work. I have to agree that sometimes names just fit the critter so until you see it, experience it and get to know it, it's tough to get a good name. When my one cat was brought to me (they asked me to save her) the poor thing was traumatized. She hid behind the dryer and I couldn't get her out of hiding in the basement for days. Once I got her up and she settled down a bit but still had quirks of temper (from being abused). It was unpredictable. It was like she'd go crazy at times and I started calling her the crazy cat. Morphed into Krazee Cat and I started calling her KC for short. It just fit. And I thought it was a decent enough name. Her name from previous owners was "Kitty". The mother said she'd always call any cat "kitty" anyway so she'd name their cats Kitty. Anyway, KC has relaxed and become a fantastic cat and not showing the fits of craziness anymore so I've said she's changed her moniker from Krazee Cat to Kitty Cat. Now the other cat is another story.

I'd always recommend buying a dog from a reputable breeder. The animal is much more likely to be healthy, and a breeder is selective about choosing owners. If we're serious about helping dogs, we need to eliminate pet shops. This would decrease puppy mill operations and prevent impulse buyers. I invite you to complain to the American Kennel Club on their 'no oversight' attitude towards registration applications -- enabling mills to sell AKC dogs on virtually no evidence of existing line. I agree with bossyvossy. Our Westie Rescue (puppy mill dog) was ridiculously expensive from the start.

So that's what a golden is supposed to look like. I haven't seen too many around here that look as good as Owsley. Handsome fellow, and quite the lineage.

Congratulations, we'll be seeing you on tv at Westminster soon I'll bet. I watched most of it and wouldn't you know missed the herding group which was what I wanted to see the most. Little Pip was entranced with it too, he sat there on the couch chewing his rawhide and watching as well. My first tv watching dog. Moms old Aussie Piper used to watch tv as well. My other dogs never have.

I don't think I've got the determination or stamina for kennel clubbing but I'm going to try Pip out on ducks to start with along with his breeders and litter mates this coming spring.

Our dogs watch the dog shows on TV, too. They show little interest in CHris Matthews or Keith Olbermann, but like action flicks and cooking shows, I think.

We are still on Cloud 9. Will post his group-win photo when we get it.

Our five Goldens were all sitting around during Westminster but Vinny was truly watching.

Helene, he is absolutely perfect, what a beautiful dog. And congratulations on his win(s)!

Peter, the WonderWeiner used to watch television with me. His favorite movie was "The Ugly Dachshund", that old Disney movie with Dean Jones and Suzanne Plechette. Every time the dachshunds would bark, he'd bark back, LOL. I always wondered what they were saying.....

Good luck with Pip!

He's drop dead gorgeous!! Congratulations!!

As soon as we get the new house finished and settle in, we'll be GR puppy shopping . . . My house and my heart have been empty for 14 months since our sweet Sammy died, and I'm more than ready . . .

I was sorry to see the Westminster GR lose out to Stump, but she lost to the BIS -- maybe we'll see a GR up there one day . . .

Your Mr. O is a stunner!

Hostagrams, check in with Goldgirl and me when you're ready for a pup and we'll get you in touch with good breeders in your area. Nothing says lovin' like a big golden puppy boy. (The girls are lovie, too, but boys are the sweetest, hands down.)

THANK YOU, Sushi . . . I'll do that. I've looked at a couple local breeders' websites and even got a recommendation from a guy I saw at the Bark Park with his 5-month old golden girl. I think I'll pm you soon and get names so I'll be ready to move when the time comes . . .

My Sam came from the old Sundance Kennel line, as did my first Golden. He wasn't a show dog but just the world's best companion.

thanks for the offer.
