Name help for puppy please? (pix)

This is my new baby Wheaten girl who needs a name. I like names that end in the "ie" or "y" sound because if they don't I know I'm going to nickname them that way anyway. The puppy is very smart and learns quickly. She's got a lot of energy and is very sure of herself. She's Irish, but it seems like all Wheatens are named "Bailey" or "Murphy" and several other very common Irish names.

This is her mother, so she should grow up to look a lot like this:

If you wanted to stick with the Irish, how about Katy? Or you could name her Caitlin and just call her Katy.

Thanks, Meghane! She is really cute, and she's half good girl and half little devil. She and my Havanese keep getting into it and I don't know why and it worries me. I'll be darned if I can figure out who is starting it. She'll grow; he won't. At 11 weeks old she shouldn't be getting in fights with anyone. So I'm a little worried that maybe the two can't live in the same house. Ideas welcome!

I've already had a Katie. That's the trouble with having had multiple dogs for decades -- I've used up a lot of cute names. :/

I don't know either...I'm not familiar with plants of the Pacific Northwest. But if your puppy is exhibiting any unusual symptoms, you may want to bring her to the vet to be examined, just in case... I agree with FataMorgana that you may want to try GardenWeb's "Name That Plant" forum (see link at the bottom os this post) and see if someone there can help identify the plant. A photo would definitely help. Here's a link for GardenWeb's Northwestern Gardening Forum...maybe someone on that forum may know what the plant is. NORTHWESTERN GARDENING FORUM: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/nwest/ You can also try bringing or e-mailing a photo of the plant to your local Cooperative Extension if you are still concerned. They may be able to help identify it. Try "googling" the name of your county plus the words "Cooperative Extension" to find yours. Sometimes state park employees or people who work at nature preserves can be helpful in identifying plants if there is a state park or nature preserve near you. You can also try contacting your local chapter of the Washington State Native Plant Society and see if they can help you identify the plant. WASHINGTON NATIVE PLANT SOCIETY: http://www.wnps.org/ There is also always a chance it is a non-native plant that has escaped from someone's garden, perhaps by birds or mammals distributing the seeds inside the pods/fruits via their droppings. Thanks, buildingva. The granite yard called my darker granite "bronze macchiatto" but I think that is a totally made up name. I've never been able to find it under that name. I think it is a pretty new granite, because the people at the fabricator had never seen it before, and they spend a lot of time with granite! I saw at least one other person on Gardenweb with that granite. I can't remember who, but I think they called theirs something like "Princess" granite. I think it is from Brazil, but I'm not even sure.

I thought my budget was reasonable too, but most of the sofas I see in that price range just look really cheap and poorly made. I have seen some that are good quality, but are very modern looking with the square arms and block feet. Do you think I could do a more modern sofa with my chairs (which are being scratched to death by the cat even as we speak)? Thanks for the options dee and yayagal. Those are lovely, but I should have mentioned that I have a real aversion to leather - not sure why. I should also mention that I'm in a small city in Canada so furniture prices are (I seem to be finding out) quite a bit higher. Here are links to a mid-priced brand of sofa many retailers carry here. I was wondering what is crating? I could mean different things to different people. As a short term ( couple of hours) home while a person is away. Maybe a night time sleep area. That's what crating is to me. It would be cruel to crate up a dog or cat all day, everyone knows that but how to you crate a puppy learning to potty outside? I've heard of too many dogs going potty in their crates that have been left in to long. That's not a good owner either. Several of my friends use the crate as I stated above. I hope they have never forced a dog to hold it for the sake of a clean floor. I know I have to go when I have to go. A few hours of holding pee is not healthy nor would it make me happy, so I can't see it would be good for my pet either. Limiting water consumption in the evening might be beneficial. Of course going to the bathroom right before bed. Puppies can't seem to hold it well at night and if they wait in their crate to long, well that can't be healthy. I used to get up, about 4 am and let the pups out to go. Like a new parent, it was hard to keep up! I've had big and little dogs and the littlest ones were always the hardest to potty train and feed. Currently I have two smaller dogs inside and the smallest can only eat regular dry dog food or she throws up or worse. In tiny amounts she can eat turkey, beef, veggies and rice/pasta. Now on the other hand my mom will make her tiny dog, food and keep it in the fridge until she needs it. Works for them but I do think the dry dog food is better for teeth. I think your going to have to find out how your dogs works and go with that. Every dog breed has its quirks, as every dog does too. Teach her ques and repeat your commands so she will quickly know what your asking of her. It doesn't take long to learn her name but the potty command, that always takes longer than we want. :)

Asling (pronounced Ashling) - Irish for "dream, vision" - call her Ashley
Brianna
Deirdre - call her DeeDee (however, name means "sorrow", you might not want that)
Kelly - means "warrior woman"
Nessa - mother of the warrior king of Ulster
Fiona - my favorite Irish name ever, but doesn't end in "y"

Hmmm.. she's very regal looking. Come to think of it, one of the most famous American irish families had a very regal "Jacqueline Lee", more commonly known as "Jackie Kennedy!" :)

Jackie Kennedy was half-Irish, her mother being the granddaughter of four immigrants from County Cork.

How cute!!!! I agree with cindyandmocha (kind of) I like the name Kennedy and it is an Irish name.

I had a friend that had a wheaten named Oatmeal and they called him Oatey. I have groomed several wheatens named Murphy.

Oatey is really cute for a boy! Very unusual too.

I love the name Rosie, and have a Goffins Cockatoo named that.

I also love the name Daisy and my 12-y.o. is named that.

Greta sounds like a German Shepherd to me. :)

One of my problems is that I've owned a lot of dogs and used to breed and show, so I've "used up" a lot of cute names like Gracie, Shelby, Annie, and Katie, to name a few. My last puppy was named Ruby, or I would use that one. I'll think about the other suggestions. Thanks everyone!

Our 'new' puppies (now 14 weeks) are Lilly and Ace.

The 9yo came up with Lilly... not sure why/where from...

Plumbly, I love the name Lilly. I just lost my Lilly (SCWT)after 13 wonderful years and I still miss her. Ace is a cute name too.

Lynne, I'm glad you said that. I bred a dog years ago that I named (kennel name here) Bonny D. Light and I'm tempted to name this one the same way (she's not my kennel name).

Oceanna, We had a wheaten terrier a few years back and we named her Piper. Unfortunately after 7 yrs she became very aggressive and at the time I did not know about the Dog Whisperer or I'm sure I could have corrected it but it was us (my young son, me etc) or the dog. The dog went.

You don't see them very often but it's so great that they don't shed and their fur is just the best. We always kept her a puppy cut length,,just easier.

We have a Lhasa Apso now who is just a love. Didn't know I could love a dog so much. Good luck with your name search and enjoy your dog. Nicole from the H.Decor. part of GW.

Piper, I wouldn't give you two cents for the Dog Whisperer. Ian Dunbar is much better, and so is clicker training. Anyway, I hope that in the end little Piper fared well and got the help she needed. I'm glad you're happy with your current dog. :) Thanks for your kind wishes.

Kartwheel, I hear you. I like to use human names, but it's best to use less popular ones because otherwise there's always someone who knows and dislikes someone by that name. :/

Ines, lol on the stripper name. Candy Barr, wasn't it? How about I name her ChooChoo Carain? haha Keely is Irish, yes. Her kennel name is spelled weird (Irish weird) but is pronounced Caley. So Caley's Keely would be pretty funny haha. Yes, my first little Wheaten girl was named Bridgette and was a real sweetheart. I dunno about Morgan, but maybe.

So now it's between Ivy, Bonnie and Ruby.

I personally think Eveleen is a beautiful name. It is pronounced EV a leen and means beauty and radience. then you could call her Evi for short. I also find Kiely pronounced KI uh lee to be a pretty Irish name! By the way your dog is beautiful! :)
