Intel Chipset Express Graphics Driver update

Last week, I had an update from HP saying that I need Intel Chipset Express Graphics Driver update. I installed it and after doing this all the graphics on my monitor got huge. It freeked me out. I shut down and rebooted. It was still like that. I got an error message that this wasn't the right driver for my computer. This is totally confusing to me.

I have HP Pavillion Desktop with Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bit.

I am not a computer geek at all. I did a system restore and the graphics went back to normal size.

My HP Total Care Advisor says I need to install this because it is a critcal update.

Please should I just ignore this message on my HP Advisor?

Is this update necesary?

I got an error message that this wasn't the right driver for my computer.
Apparently it is not the right driver & the windows or the driver told you so.

So I don't think I'd be installing it again.

You may have been able to go to control panel and double click the Intel Graphics icon and set the resolution to the right size... but with that not the right driver message, you sort of did the right thing. That'll work!

The proper thing may have been to go to Device manager and roll back the driver. Then microsoft would get the message and if enough people did the same they'd probably give you the proper driver as one of thier updates in the near future, if it is required.

I had an intel 965 chipset graphic driver update from windows update for a vista laptop on April 7th. Works fine.

1. Have you checked start/settings/control panel/power options/advanced/power button to make sure it is set to shutdown? 2. My motherboard has the same yellow marks for the PCI drivers when the chipset drivers are originally installed but gives instructions to remove them from device manager after installation of SP4. Once that has been done, on a reboot the computer detects and installs them normally. Just a couple of thoughts. Terry

For the chipset updates you need to know which you are using - VIA, Ali, Intel or whatever. As you appear to be running well in Vista perhaps you are wise to leave the optional updates alone till it is proven they will enhance your computer's performance.

I support DA's attitude...for the most part. If I upgrade a driver, I do it myself from the device management page and only then if I'm having problems with the particular piece of equipment/device. I, too, was offered the Intel driver you're mentioning a few days ago and I ducked it. A review of all of my Intel products did not suggest an upgrade to any of their drivers was necessary. That was enough to convince me that I didn't need it. Just a personal thought...I think we Win 7 - 8 owners are going to see a lot of these type of updates offered now that Win 10 is out there and being installed for free on current Win 7 - 8 systems. I think it's MS's way of upgrading Win 7 - 8 systems to accept the new demands that Win 10 will make on it. I'm being very cautious about what updates/upgrades I install these days....reading all the documentation/facts that come with the proposed upgrade/update.
