I hear you, damccoy....my memory is NOT what it used to be either and my attitude is NOT what it used to be either. I find myself "cranky" about having to spend my valuable time learning something new when what I was doing was perfectly fine and suited my needs. AND I would really prefer spending my time doing something else more fun...like quilting or sewing or reading on my kindle or gardening or scrapbooking or cooking or most anything than sitting in front of a computer screen. I think I fixed the spacing issue but had to go to 9 pt to make Word 2010 look the same as Word 2003. My current issue is that centering a word or phrase as titles for a new part of a doc is off. They don't line up. I have deleted and redone each but they are all skewed slightly left or right. Thanks, Owbist. Your advice gratefully received.

Some MS Office Home and Student versions allow you to install them on more than one computer. Others do not. If you have a version that has already been installed on the allowed number of computers you cannot install it on another. Word 2010 isn't that different from 2007. You should get used to it pretty soon. I use both on different computers along with word 97 on another with no problem. Any particular feature of word 2010 you don't like?

I can tell you that Microsoft Office and Open Office are not 100% compatible. Depending on the complexity of the documents you use, you may need to spend some time "converting" them to an Open Office format. You also need to be concerned if you "share" any electronic documents with business associates that use Microsoft Office. Even though Open Office gives you the option of saving in an Microsoft Office, I've noticed some minor differences with documents created in Open Office and later opened in Microsoft Office. Since Open Office is a free download, there's no reason you can't try it and see how it works for you. As an aside, I think you'll find the user agreement for Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition prohibits commercial use. While it is highly unlikely that the Microsoft police will come knocking, it is something you should be aware of.
