Moms going in for another procedure tomorrow

If I'm not around it's because I'm at SMC with Mom. She has a tear in her urethra and they have to put a tube in her goodies. They had to surgically drain a pocket of urea in her torso today and she has a tube in her back :(. She just got her cathither removed this weekend. Things are not going well, her white count is very high, indicating an infection. So please keep the good thoughts going, Barbara needs your help. I'm blowing off work to see her tomorrow before surgery even though school was closed today and I had to stay home. Please throw those good thoughts our way ok?

You got 'em!

Be very careful when she gets out. Hospitals are full of "stuff" that are causing infections and watch the hospital staff like a hawk on a mouse.

Mom was in isolation last year for an infection, just before she passed. Full of notices to gown amd mask up, but the nurses were in and out without doing it. from one room to another. No hand washing, no gown, no mask and they were handling her. And they got snippy whenI called them on it too!

Linda, my heart goes out to you and your mom at such a difficult, heartbreaking time. Not a one of us wants or wanted to make that kind of decision and I still have difficulty with it even though it's been 6 months now since I had to place my dad. One thing that I am seeing now that might help you a bit, is that my dad is getting the care I could not give him and I know that if anything happens there's round the clock help. I'm also seeing that my dad is being around more people and he's not allowed to "hole up" in isolation like he was used to living. Several aides and nurses just adore him and he likes the attention. He didn't like mine. You are in my thoughts and prayers and just know there's more of us that are going through this and we all understand. You're not alone. Please be good to yourself and get some much needed rest when things settle down a bit. Kay

Oh, raehelen, sorry you are having to deal with so many things at once. I cannot get one kitchen done. You must be overwhelmed with TWO kitchens and a master BR remodel. Just get it done is becoming my mantra, sound familiar? See if I can be more clear - Two under counter ovens will be side-by-side (another inspiration this morning- from the youngdeb's kitchen, a really nice kitchen). Each side of the cooktop has 15'' of counter space, which should be enough with the island. The better view will be from the prep island looking out the sink and DR windows. There is not a view to the front of the house. Well, the front door is visible down the hall from the kitchen. An advantage of this plan is that some of the pieces can be added later. Such as the upper cabinets over the refrigerator and Napanee Kitchenet, and the desk. I suppose the BB hutch could come later. I could use what I am using now, an LLBean hutch and dorm fridge. One MUST have is a music player/radio, either my laptop or shelf system on the desk. A desk by the cooktop wouldn't be compatible. Here is a link that might be useful: youngdeb

My parents were married for 25 yrs when they divorced. Their marriage didn't come first at all. I don't know that even us kids came first...LOL. My mother has not re-married, but my father has. I have been on both sides of the fence with step-families. I was an adult when my father remarried. I have taken my approach with my SS's from what I have learned as a child of divorce, and from the mistakes his wife has made. 1. The marriage to my DH is of equal importance as his children. 2. The children need one on one time with their father regardless of how good our relationship is as a family. Whether intact or not, children need one on one time with each parent. 3. If anything were to happen to my DH, the chilren will recieve all monies from his life insurance policy, any items of his that they want, etc. It has been made clear to me and my siblings that we are not welcome to a personal relationship with our father. We are allowed to have one with him AND his wife (which is fine, but sometimes you need one on one with your parents) When I got married the first time, my father was dating his now wife. He brought her to my wedding. That was the first time I met her. They had come from out of state (about 1,000 miles) to our wedding. I welcomed her openly. She was awful. Very rude to my brothers, my mother, and disrespectful to my grandparents. She made it clear that she didn't feel that I was old enough to get married, and that she would never allow her daughter (same age as me) to get married. (I was young...21) Six months later, her daughter married a meth addict. Nice.... Anyway, over the years she's pulled some pretty crazy stuff. Alienating one of my brothers totally, and pi$$ing of the rest of us. Here's the thing. I still invite her to all family functions becuase she's my fathers wife. I remarried a while back, and she was invited to the wedding, and she sat with my in-laws, etc. I would never dream of treating her with any disrespect. I don't have to like what she does, but she is my father's wife, and that is the choice he made. My relationship with my father isn't what it use to be, and that's pretty sad, but that is his choice. I love him regardless. So, understanding both side of things, my goal is to foster a positive, fulfulling relationship between my DH and SS's. They all deserve it. What's funny, is that my DH would never allow me (or anyone else for that matter) to come between him and his kids. Nor would he allow my SS's to be disrespectful to me. I've been lucky, my SS's are very good to me. I don't know what I'd do if they weren't. I know I'd be crushed. I just don't think it's ever OK to exclude a bio OR step parent. When my SS had his 12th b-day party, he was mad at his mother still (he had moved in with us a yr before)and I told him "you invite your Mom, or no party...period". He got the message. We're teaching him tolerance. It can go a long way, just like manners.

Thank you Linda. I will be mindful of the rules. Its been so on my mind I haven't slept more than 2 hrs a night in weeks. I can't wait to see Mom tomorrow. I guess that isn't too too bad I normally only sleep 4 or 5 at most.

I sure hope everything goes well. Maybe this tear is what caused the infection? Hopefully this will be the turning point in the right direction. Sending good thoughts and energy her way.. and yours.

got to hear the urologist explain the procedure and alternatives if it's not what they think - or more complex, he sounds competent and confident which makes me happy. Plus I rode up in the elevator with him and he said he liked my flowers [white and pink carnations for MOm :)] good sign to meet him first I think. Saw the D.O. who is such an optimist and has known my family for 35 yrs. Still waiting to hear how it went but at least I saw Mom today.

Thanks for the continued support, it's meant alot. Still need a nap though lol.

You guys must be a good luck charm! the tear *was* the problem, the procedure was only 45 minutes, her plumbing was not destroyed by the infection. Mom called after the procedure to tell me she was feeling much better about everything and that the nurses hid a dinner tray for her :) so she could eat after the procedure. Looks like I need to go buy more Bath & Bodyworks stuff! lol.
