Gap in countertop around induction cooktop

We just had a GE Profile induction cooktop installed. It was originally sitting on top of the Silestone countertop and our contractor recommended recessing it to sit flush with the countertop--to make it look better and also for easier cleanup. We did this--the countertop installer came out and cut the opening. Now the issue is this--there is a gap in the countertop around the cooktop that in places is 1/4" wide. The foam has been placed under the cooktop so that the surface is flush. Any recommendations on how to take care of the gap? We really don't want to replace the countertops--we're afraid of damage to our new cabinets. Thanks
