Grill or griddle with 48 inch range?

I am deciding between a grill and griddle for 48 inch Viking range. I originally thought that I would get the grill, as one can purchase a separate griddle piece to put over the burners (therefore-- you can have both the grill and the griddle). Comparatively, if a range doesn't have the grill-- it can't be approximated with an add-on piece. And we do love to grill (on our outdoor grill currently). However, I have heard from most grill owners (both Wolf and Viking) that the grills generate so much smoke (even with the recommended hoods)and are so difficult to clean, that they rarely use the grill. I am wondering if having the built-in griddle (which may actually get some use) might be a better option than a smoky grill? Any thoughts?
