Hundreds of Thousands May Lose Internet in July

I didn't know how else to title this..

I just ran across this today & wonder if I'm the only one who hadn't seen it.

I'm afraid to click the link provided until I check here. I'm not a very adventuresome person or probably just afraid of messing up. I realize the chances of being one infected is remote.

This threat does indeed appear to be real, but like most of these type announcements made in the press, they are sensationalized and often exaggerated to attract readers. See http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2011/november/malware_110911/DNS-changer-malware.pdf . Note you don't need any special tool to ensure you are not affected. You can easily check via a Cmd prompt and ipconfig /all, or via the your networking Control Panel applet.

The key here is "practicing safe computing". To remain clean and safe, keep your system updated and patched with the latest security updates and system patches, scan your system regularly with an able anti-malware solution (I use MSE), use a capable computer based firewall (I use Windows Firewall) and lastly, avoid risky behavior like visiting illegal porn or gambling sites, or participating in filesharing via torrents or through P2P sites that facilitate illegal filesharing."

"Illegal" porn sites? Are there legal porn sites? I think "reputable" might be a better adjective. Reputable porn sites are legitimate business that want your money and have no more interest in infecting your computer than does Amazon or Staples.

I feel for you... Someone in the family needs to get a Lawyer out there and have the Power of Attorney paperwork drafted up and signed... If you don't - things as simple as dealing with medical issues when his condition worsens becomes an absolute nightmare - because the doctors will be forced to try to get his consent when he has no idea of what they are saying.... Anyway, on your plants... Do whatever you can do as fast as you can.... The longer you wait around - the more likely they will all die. Not sure if you have them in your yard or on his property or if they haven't showed up yet..... If they are in your possession - get them in the ground or they will all die... and you will loose 100% of your money... Even if you have to rent a trench machine and plant them in the yard at your house... That will give you time... You will then have 1 to 2 years to deal with them - as they will still be reasonably small in 2 years... A last idea is to just go back to Grandpa and tell him that the trees he wanted are here and you need to get them in the ground... and then go plant them. You may not reap any benefit from them - but the trees won't die.... Likely it would take 10-15 years to get anything out of the Pecans - so time is on your side.... Thanks

Donna - I have a lot of confidence that you will find some time to "play" next week, enjoy the time off! Besh - I agree, don't get frustrated, we have all been there and if you keep behaving it will only be a temporary gain. Suzanne - I love tarragon too, also rosemary. Dee - one of our closest friends is a dentist. I always ask him how it feels to have so many people afraid of you. He is one of the nicest men I know and I can only imagine that he is very gentle and compassionate as a dentist. He lives over an hour away or I would go to him. Marci - I have my gyn appointment in a couple of weeks - I dread it too, but necessary. How is DD doing (and you)? I can't wait to see DD#1 in a few weeks! Patti - if you are reading, we miss you, hope you are having fun being a grandma LOL. My MIL had been visiting since Sunday, she was suppose to leave on Sunday but became very bored and left today. I guess my BIL's house is more exciting (thank goodness). You can't even believe all the things we did with her and she is still bored. She had her hair done, we took her shopping, out on the boat, out to breakfast twice, out to lunch another day and out to dinner one night. DH went into work late so they could spend time together and 20 family members were with us Sunday and Monday. I wish I had time to get bored. QOD - No agenda and I hope it stays that way. I haven't had my house to myself since last Friday and it feels good to just be home. As much as I go out I am really a homebody at heart. Friends are coming up from FL tomorrow evening, so we will probably go boating if the weather permits. Enjoy your weekend.

Good Friday, Ivamae, congrats on your loss and for getting through dental surgery so well! You must feel good about having that behind you. Jan, don't stay away so long. I miss you. Seems everyone is disappearing these days to other social networks. Dee you have a fun weekend! Besh you have had your share of sadness lately. We have to turn that sadness into joy some how! I am glad you are posting here again. I've missed you. Heat,heat, heat, here too. It's awful. This is longest heat wave I can remember. The good news is that I get a break from mowing! LOL This heat is tough on Sweet Pea but she is staying in front of her fan. I wish this heat would end. This morning we put up 300 bales of hay. That's the first half. They came early so that we weren't doing it in the heat of the day. It always feels good to have hay in the barn. Because of the heat, humidity and BUGS I have not been riding. Even at 4:30am the deer flies are out full force. It just makes riding not fun for Casey or me. There has been so much wildlife activity here right now. We have a new batch of three foxes, a doe and her little fawn, a slew of baby woodchucks, turkey hens with all their little babies, a new brood of Phoebes and it looks like the Bluebirds are going to start a new family. I love this. This morning I saw the tallest coyote that I have ever seen. It looked like an eastern Timber wolf. We all saw him cross the pasture and keep going. He was a big one. I am glad he kept going. I must finish my chores before it gets too hot to do anything constructive! Have a good weekend.

It was scheduled to happen back in March but they delayed it.
You can just go to this link it explains it, click on the test page there and it will immediately show you if you are clean or not. Very simple, no download, no installation, no scans, click the link to the test and thats it. Should you be infected there is a fixit page to help you.

I am not totally sure what to make of this yet. So I keep reading to be informed.

Taking the information below at face value the number of infected systems began at 568,000 world-wide, and as of April 24, 2012, have now been reduced to 360,000 with 85,000 renaming in the United States.
