Inside of front door, To paint or not to paint?

We have a stainable, fiberglass, wood grain look front door. The painter stained the front and back a real dark cherry. The builder said she always paints the inside white. She asked us to check it out.

We love it. It's a great contrast to the inside of the home and matches the wood on our kitchen cabinets and powder room. It does not match the floor because that will be light hardwood.

What did you guys do? I want to keep it stained.

Ours is stained on both sides. I've seen it look great either way though. Our door stain is the same as the cabinetry and beams. I think if yours matches something inside too (cabinets) then keep it stained if that's what you want.

Inside of my front door is white - which is my trim color. If all the trim in the house wasn't white...well, the door would still probably be white. The outside sides of my doors are dark red, so I don't think I'd need two colors on one door. I recently starting thinking about painting the kitchen doors another color (grey-blue? dark greeny-aqua?). What color are you thinking? What colors do you have in the house already?

Thing is, every blog post I've seen where the door ends up looking great the doors are wood. The doors I need to replace are also wood and I would just paint them myself if I planned on keeping them but they're no longer energy efficient and I'm in Canada. It just seems silly to charge $300 extra for one-sided color. Plus I know I'll end-up painting the thing on the interior - or shelling more $$$$

I’m not much of a pattern person. So I’m not sure wallpaper makes a lot of sense for me. Especially as high up as these are and as small as they are. A small patter would just get lost and a big pattern wouldn’t show very well, I don’t think. If I went with painted posterboard or foamboard, how could that damage the cabinets? The cabinets are not lighted and running wiring to get them lighted isn’t worth the cost to me. I actually like repeats of objects. If I did the enamel pitchers, I would vary the colors. Really though I think it’s too much money for me at this point for something that would be entirely for looks.

Don’t know the colors for your entryway. Mine is stained on the inside and painted Burgandy on the outside. There’s no set rules you can do whatever suits you.

we, too, have a woodgrain fiberglass front door and we opted to stain the front a dark reddish-brownish-plum and the inside is painted white to match our trim. It looks great. The painter suggested we do it that way because to stain the inside the same as the outside would have brought one more color into the interior of our house and been too "busy" - it was a great suggestion. I'm thrilled that we did it white inside.

But do what you like. That's what matters most!

We decided to keep the stained door on the inside, thanks for all of the advice.

Here are a couple photos. They haven't been completely trimmed out or finished yet.

I was just told today that we can move-in a week from Monday. You guys probably felt the earth move when I passed out and fell on the floor.

Too bad a week from Monday we will be out of town. But we will be well rested the following weekend. I'm so excited I'm about to burst.

OMG!!! That is practically right now!! I am so excited for you, and plan on sitting my rear in front of the computer with a beer for "THE VIEWING" of all the pictures I know you'll share:-) That is great news!
