how do i uninstall ie 8

I'm trying to uninstall ie 8 but i get a message that says

ieeula ensure that the location specified below is correct,or change it and insert "Windows NT service pack

uninstall directly in the drive you specify. right now it says

copy files from c\windows\ie8 what does this mean. I can't even get ie to even open up i'm using firefox at the moment.

what Operating system and service pack are you using? is it xpsp3 by any chance?

When IE7 installs it moves IE6 into the Windows folder and puts IE7 in your Program Files; "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" You might go there and right click iexplore.exe choose properties and see if it shows as IE7 - if so, double click it. Hopefully once started it will take over and continue to work. .... You might go read about System File Checker(support.micosoft.com) and run it... SFC Â /scanonce That will fix corrupt files and drivers and some of their configurations too. One way to repair Internet Explorer and numerious other problems is to reinstall SP2 ... assuming you're on XP. Being how you cant access update.microsoft.com you may have to search for and download xp sp2 at download.microsoft.com.

You probably set IE as your default browser and need to set opera as default. In opera Tools > preferences > advanced > programs and put a check for opera to check on startup to see if it is set as default. Restart opera and make it your default browser

All's well that ends well. I thought v6.0 was the first version compliant with the federal anti-trust law suit agreement that IE could be removed sucessfully from Windows. Again dusting off an old brain cell or two, wasn't it at this time the creation of the Microsoft update site came into existence as an alternative to the on-board Windows update utility configured through IE? This of course being done so users could update Windows without being mandated to retain IE. DA

Why are you trying to uninstall it? If you merely want to use a different browser, such as Mozilla Firefox, designate Mozilla as the default browser and IE8 just sits as an unused program.

I have xp sp2, for some reason when i use the 8, when i need to try to type in a password or log in the box is unusable. It doesn't let me type anything in the box or the box is real tiny, then i can type in it but it's so tiny i can't see what is being typed.

did you try to do it through add remove programs? it should have reverted you back to IE7 if you did it that way. I would try to reinstall IE8 fully and then try a removal from add remove programs. It sounds like you have a mix up now of partial IE8.

the reason I asked about sp3 was if you had IE8 when you install sp3 then that will not allow you to go back to IE7 but since you are on sp2 you would not be having that problem.

I finally got it removed and it went back to IE6 but now that's not working right. I had to use firefox to able to type this. In ie i can no longer post anything or able to
log in. It just isn't letting me type into any spaces. My isp holds my spam mail on there server sight, i use outlook express just for family and friends but can no longer click on a link in the e mail and can't log into my e mail. I go from one problem to another. thanks

go here and do the full install of IE7 and see if that might repair what has gone wrong.

Windows Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP

you definitely do not want to say on IE 6 it is not being supported and is not a safe browser to use anymore.

If you have your computer on Microsoft automatic updates, you might want to take it off auto and put it on Notify only, then you install what you want. If not and while on auto, it will reinstall IE8 somewhere down the road

yes that is true, or go onto windows updates page and block IE 8 from being installed. Find the IE8 update and select to have it hidden any time you want it then you can go back and unhide it.

Personally, I would go for it. It has been around long enough for an little glitches to be sorted out. I would do a full antivirus scan and also a scan using Malwarebytes before the install to make sure the computer is bug free.
It also wouldnt hurt to go in a do a system clean ie:
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk clean, to get rid of all the temp files etc. Good idea to do that before the AV and Spyware scans. No sense scanning garbage files.

this is the site with all the directions on how to prepare for the install of sp3 on your computer. Turning off all antivirus programs and any other running programs prior to install. Definitely create a restore point before installing, but should something go wrong before using the restore point you want to go into add remove programs and look for and remove sp3. Trying to remove a service pack by using a restore point can cause a mis mash of old and new.
