How to uninstall IE 7?

I am using Firefox and wish to uninstall IE 7. Can I simply use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel? I see IE Updates are listed there, too...do I uninstall it the same way? Thank you!

Ok first of all you need to understand you can not get rid of Internet explorer it is a part of Windows and you must have it because some of the things you will need from Microsoft must be done using IE, like windows updates for example, many programs will only allow you to use them with IE, some ISP's will only allow IE for their install other browsers are not supported.

You can get rid of IE7 and it will revert back to IE6 but if you do not use IE why bother just don't use it. IE7 has more updated security features.

It is perfectly fine to have both firefox and IE on the pc in fact they can both be used at the same time with out problems.

To revert back to IE6 if you go to add remove programs you can remove IE7 but understand you will still have IE. I would definitely not remove any of your updates in add remove.

Please accept my apology for taking forever to say "Thank you"! You are always so helpful. You're right, I didn't understand that I have to have IE as part of Windows. Duh. :)

Thanks for all the help, everyone. I'll tackle this next week. And Genes, I leave the auto-update on because it really is very convenient. I'm not sure this problem had anything to do with that because they have been begging me to download IE7 for months--but they never did it without my permission before. I still have not installed it or decided to. Just don't want any headaches I can't fix.

Well, the computer has been running very slowly, and I've tried about everything else and the only program I've had any problems with has been IE8. I've stopped using IE8 and have been using FireFox, but in my infinite wisdom I decided to try to get rid of IE8 on this computer since I've been using it until the other one is running properly. Only it wasn't real bright to mess with the only computer that was running fairly well. Lesson learned! I tried reinstalling IE8 and got a message that said it didn't load properly. I even tried to uninstall it again, but still got the same error message.

this is the site with all the directions on how to prepare for the install of sp3 on your computer. Turning off all antivirus programs and any other running programs prior to install. Definitely create a restore point before installing, but should something go wrong before using the restore point you want to go into add remove programs and look for and remove sp3. Trying to remove a service pack by using a restore point can cause a mis mash of old and new. fwiw IE9 is my browser of choice.. I need activeX for some network servers & IE9 surely loads in a blink. Firefox upgrade, about 6mb, v11 to 12 failed here ... failed but graciously offered a full download. Uninstalled the FireFox11 manually in control panel before installing new Firefox12. Seemed fine. It offers remove personal settings or not.. I always do remove personal ... because I seldom use it MS Security essentials upgraded the beta 4 version without a hitch here thru microsoft automatic updates. It was like a wake up call to uninstall reinstall IE9 along with flash & java's... when I suddenly had errors .. page not responding ... and this is a new laptop, maybe 10 days old. Came with one error in the admin error log... i fixed that easy, a win7sp1 known error. Something that upgraded very recent hurt IE9 somehow.
