It really wouldn't do YOU any good even if someone had.

Induction is more efficient by a mile.

In order for YOU to get some sort of accurate read the calcs would have to be done with your gas and electricity prices.

However...................your friendly big brother has done this for you on those little yellow energy tags that come on all appliances telling you the yearly cost to operate based on averages.

Cooking is only about 6% of a home's energy budget--unless you run a home catering business or other full time kitchen job. The big energy users are HVAC, lighting, and refrigeration. So, efforts spent to insulate the home, change over to fluorescents and buying and Energy Star refrigerator can pay for your cooking energy over a year's time.

Having said that, gas cooktops aren't energy efficient at actually transferring heat to the pot on top of them. Maybe 60-70% of the heat goes to the pan trying to be heated. A lot of heat is released up the vent---or back into the room if you don't have a vent. With electric, more of the actual heat is transferred into the cook ware than with gas, so even though electric rates are usually more expensive per actual therm of heat produced, the cost for the the two methods of cooking aren't all that different. However, induction approaches 97%-99% efficiency in transferring the available heat production into the cookware to cook your food. It's a significant energy "savings" over choosing gas. Since your home's cooking energy budget is only around 6% though, you don't see that as a big dollar savings compared to maximizing the efficiency of other energy users. And it's very difficult to "justify" the purchase of an induction cooktop over a gas one as an energy savings expenditure. The real payback timeline is too long to really see any "savings" over anything but an extremely long time period. The exact math will depend on your cost for both gas and electricity in your area and the costs of the cooktops under consideration, as well as any associated "upgrade" costs that go along with the choices.

So wouldn't all the heat transferred to the air from a gas cooktop also affect costs associated with HVAC? Maybe help reduce heating costs in the winter and raise AC costs in the summer? Plus you need a stronger vent with gas, so are there extra electricity costs (and appliance costs) with gas venting?

But on the other hand, if you have to buy all new pots for induction, that can be pricey too!

I say just get what you want. But if you need to "justify" your decision (either way), not all arguments are based on $$$ considerations.

No doubt, the wasted heat in using gas can help in winter time heating bills. Then again, the reverse is true when cooking with gas during the summer, since you will need to be using your air conditioner more.

Strictly on energy usage pricing, cooking by induction is substantially cheaper than gas or regular electric.

Obviously if you don't have many magnetic pots and pans, there is an extra cost in buying the appropriate induction worthy cookware. But most people have some pots and pans that already are induction capable, such as a cast iron grill pan, Le Creuset enamel-coated cast iron pots, and the many stainless cookware people already use.

For those that don't want to buy the best induction cookware there are any number of cheap alternatives. As for me, I love the Fissler stainless induction cookware, although it is rather pricey--in the price range of All-Clad and Demeyere. I find the Fissler cookware to be superior to my All-Clad pots and pans, particularly Fissler's great Steelux ultimate fryware set-up, which includes two 11" frypans--one non-stick Protectal which is great for lower heat applications and a standard with a diamond grid surface which is great for high heat searing. It also comes with the best splatter guard I have ever used.

It will not make a noticeable difference, unless you are concerned with $200 +/- over 10 years use, and not concerned about buying cookware for one vs. the other. Initial cost difference, and installation cost difference, will dominate the $$$, so just go with what you want otherwise.
