I've had both. I had the Capresso MT500 and replaced it with the Technivorm Mocca Master. I like the look of the Technivorm.

They both brew good coffee but the Capresso would frequently flood my counter if I brewed more than half a pot. The drip basket and carafe top were poorly designed. You not only had to line the pot up exactly with the drip basket but if the coffee was ground to fine it wouldn't drip quickly enough and if the basket got too full of water it would overflow out the top and onto the counter. Even when I thought I'd mastered it, it would still overflow on me.

I'm really pleased with the Technivorm. My only complaint is that the thermal carafe that comes with it isn't great. I did figure out that to get it to pour properly you need to put the cap in and mostly tigthened but the carafe itself doesn't keep the coffee warm very long so I now pour the remainder into a thermos bottle. I'm thinking of getting the Nissan carafe that someone recommended on the other thread.

I've had the new Capresso Therm (had an older capresso model with glass carafe that didn't pour well) since Father's day. It's used daily. We love it. I think Capresso makes a fantastic grind and brew combo, the new stainless carafe keeps the coffee hot and portable, easy to program.

I have owned both Capresso and Technivorm. I currently have the Technivorm Clement Design (Cylindrical version-I like the look more than the original). I have found that if you rinse the thermal carafe with hot water before brewing and put the lid on immediately after brewing, the coffee remains hot for easily 2 hours. I do wish they had a lid which the coffee could brew through, but they don't, and I don't feel like spending more money for a different carafe. One advantage with the Clement Design (at least mine, is that you can store the carafe, with the lid on, underneath the filter basket. I don't think this is the case with the original design. I really like how you can slow, or even stop, the brewing process to extract more flavor from the ground beans. This machine really gets the water hot and everything comes apart for easy cleaning. The filter basket does tend to drip a little bit, so after I pour a cup, I put the carafe back under the basket to catch the drips in the lid. Not a big deal, my Bosch Porsche Design started dripping about 2 months after I had it. Overall, I highly recommend the Technivorm, quirks and all. It's Dutch after all. No offense to the non-quirky Dutch folks out there.

Used to have a Capresso (still have one of their burr grinders and love it!). We have the Technivorm Moccamaster (KBT-741 I think) going on to over 2 years now. Like baver and weissman mentioned, it does have its quirks but it's also been the best coffee maker we've had.

I agree with weissman that the lid is tweaky and that it really needs to be on all the way and then loosen a bit to get a good pour. If not, then there's a weird split stream that comes out.

As far as keeping coffee warm, in our experience, putting the lid on right after brewing keeps the coffee "hot" for about two hours without preheating. The carafe will keep the coffee "warm" for another few more hours thereafter. Also the amount of coffee in the carafe affects how long it stays hot/warm. We have a Nissan thermos that we use if we need to keep the coffee "hot!" for several hours. It's a huge difference and I highly recommend the Nissan. Not that most people will need to keep their coffee hot for 24 hours but when we first got it, I put it through a test by preheating the thermos with very hot water and kept the thermos about half full with coffee for 24 hours. That coffee still came out pretty hot (not warm) the next day!

There are 2 other nits I have about the Technivorm but really are little nits and just took some adjustment on our part. First, there is no automatic shut-off. Which means we had to learn to shut if off once the coffee was done brewing. The saving grace is that when on, there isn't a hot plate that can burn out.

The 2nd nit is the filter basket's lever in our model. There are 3 positions: full brew, half brew, and closed. Sometimes when washing the basket, DH would accidentally push the lever in the closed position and not realize it. Go to brew coffee and nearly had an overflow issue. Luckily he always caught it in time before it overflowed. The way I fixed this problem since he never did learn to look at the lever before he brewed coffee was to use painter's tape to keep the lever in the correct position. We handwash the basket so the tape stays on for quite a long time.

But other than that, Technivorm makes the best tasting coffee in our opinion. We've done side-by-side taste comparison when we first got it and still had 2 old coffee makers. Same grind, same coffee, same water, noticeably different in taste. Oh yeah, as I understand it (but I could be wrong), all the parts on the Technivorm are replaceable.

Several more thoughts on the Technivorm. When we bought ours 4 years ago, I hesitated because it was considerably more expensive than many other coffeemakers. However, 4 years later, it's still making great clean hot coffee with no aftertaste. We bought the hot plate model for home and the carafe model for our beach place and both are still going strong. My experience with less expensive coffeemakers has been that they quit working well after a year or two of constant use, acquiring a bad aftertaste, not heating to brew temp, etc.

I have a question about the Technivorm coffeemaker -- We rarely want eight cups of coffee, so how many cups must be brewed? We usually want only 2-3 cups each time we make coffee. Thanks

I usually brew about half the capacity at a time just for myself, 4-cups as indicated.
